POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine, this position's primary responsibility is to perform a variety of duties involved in the evaluation, treatment, care and rehabilitation of USF student athletes, while adhering to all NCAA, Conference, and institutional rules and regulations. This position also educates student athletes on preventive measures to avoid injuries. This position is under the direction of a team physician and in accordance with the Florida Athletic Training Practice Act.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides immediate medical attention for all types of injuries sustained by student athletes including non-life threatening and life-threatening injuries. Administers proper first aid and medical care. Responsible for the evaluation of the nature, scope, and/or extent of injury. Determines initial action/aid or protocol to be followed Administers treatment and rehabilitation to injured athletes under the direction of the team physician. Required to attend all home and away team practices and games for assigned intercollegiate sport(s).
Develops injury prevention programs, which may include operating therapeutic modalities and rehab equipment including three Hydroworx Series pools and maintaining safety and general maintenance of such equipment. Develops and implements reconditioning exercises, fitness programs, and educates student athletes to aid in the prevention of injuries. Applies prophylactic bandages and tape to student athletes before all practices and games to prevent further injuries.
Administrative duties including using the "SportPharm" Network software to track and develop athletes' injury and medication profiles, providing insurance information, medical record keeping and other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Supervises graduate assistant(s) and/or undergraduate student(s) that are part of the Athletic Training Education Program at USF.
Serves as a liaison between coaches, parents, doctors, athletes, head trainer, departmental staff and the university to resolve problems and/or address concerns relative to the student athlete's injury.
Performs other related duties and/or projects as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC); and Eligible for Florida State AT licensure.
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in related field from an accredited university. Two or more years of related university experience.
