A minimum of one (1) year of experience in grounds and turf maintenance or one (1) year of experience as a Landscape Worker I at the University of Memphis.Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
This position is open until filled. The department will begin screening applicants beginning Wednesday, September 27, 2023.The department is especially interested in candidates with the following proficiency to perform work independently with little or no additional training and proficiency to work with power equipment such as chain saws, stump grinders, tractors, and sweeper trucks.
Monday – Friday7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.Must be able to work a non-standard workweek when necessary, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and push or pull up to 250 pounds with appropriate tools or moving equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and color vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, chemicals, fumes and airborne particles, outdoor spaces and is required to climb ladders to access equipment in high and/or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Ability to read, write, and follow verbal instructions.Knowledge of the practices, tools, materials, and machines used in grounds and turf maintenance operations.Knowledge of infield clay(s)/skinned areas and applicable maintenance practices.Physical ability to perform work involving standing, stooping, operating equipment, and lifting of materials and equipment.Ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.Knowledge of appropriate safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.Ability to identify turf pests and institute turfgrass maintenance and treatment.Knowledge of sports field irrigation systems.Knowledge of appropriate pest management guidelines and standards.Knowledge of standards for athletic fields including golf, football, soccer, etc.Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.Ability to resolve complex problems and issues.
Must be able to comply with Athletic Department, University, Board of Trustees, NCAA, and Conference policies and procedures.
Job Duties
Turf Maintenance:Assists in the preparation and maintenance of all facilities for practices, events, and games.Assists in the layout and painting of athletic fields to proper NCAA regulations.Operates paint machines, skid steer, aerifiers, sweepers, verti-cutters, top dressers, and reel mowers.
Grounds Care:Cleans, maintains, and repairs lawn care tools and equipment.May assist with the mixing and application of chemicals for weed control.Maintains grounds; water, rakes, mows trims, and edges lawns and shrubbery.Maintains work area in a clean, neat, and orderly manner.Picks up and bags litter, broken glass, and tree limbs to keep grounds neat and orderly for all occupants and guests.Plants shrubs, trees, flowers, and other plants.Re-sods or reseeds barren areas.Maintain and repair irrigation systems on-site.Daily policing and trash removal.
Game duties:Understanding NCAA Game Regulations for Baseball, Softball, and Soccer. Working NCAA games to ensure competition can be held to those regulations. Being a liaison on behalf of the Athletic department
