Utah Valley University is seeking an Athletics Academic Advisor to support student-athletes in achieving academic success. Working under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services, this role organizes, coordinates, and implements comprehensive academic support for assigned sport programs. Responsibilities include providing academic advising within the university and NCAA systems, overseeing weekly academic performance monitoring, managing sport study halls, and facilitating travel letters and official visits. Additionally, the advisor will support student-athletes through recruiting assessments, tutorial services, and academic awards and recognition programs. This position is ideal for someone passionate about helping student-athletes excel both academically and athletically.
Summary of Responsibilities
Organizes and implements academic services programs that closely monitor the academic progress of freshmen, transfers and at-risk student athletes and adheres to NCAA eligibility requirements. Advises student-athletes each semester during the pre-registration process through monitoring and record keeping of their class schedules for graduation requirements and special athletic needs, such as travel and practice times.
Works with coaches in establishing and conducting sport-specific study programs and supervised study sessions for their respective athletes both when home and traveling.
Works with NCAA Eligibility Coordinator with initial and continuing eligibility status for Student Athletes for compliance with NCAA, WAC and UVU academic standards. Assists student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility in completing their degree at UVU.
Handles overall distribution, management and accounting of team’s textbook program. Works with upperclassmen in all graduation matters; career counseling, letters of recommendation, post-graduate testing, applications, etc.
Represents the Athletics Department at various conferences, community activities, school events, and other functions pertaining to academics.
Coordinates with Learning Performance Specialist to assist student-athletes with learning disabilities to focus on developing personal learning strategies through guided, repetitive practice in study skills, reading, writing, time management and goal setting.Reviews and evaluate team academic success plan and academic schedules to ensure NCAA Eligibility Certification and graduation success.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a directly related field of study or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.
