Job Description
The Athletic Academic Advisor II, under general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director of , advises undergraduate student-athletes concerning their career goals and academic requirements. Attends state, regional and national athletic academic advising professional meetings and specialized training sessions. Keeps the Office of Athletic Compliance abreast through regularly scheduled meetings.
Responsibilities:
Provides academic advising for students grounded in tenets of practice outlined by the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA), National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), and appropriate academic advising and student development theories.
Assist the Associate Athletic Director of Compliance with individual team certifications; perform administrative duties that are essential to the daily functioning of the office by monitoring overall NCAA Compliance; assist student-athletes with establishing and revising the semester and annual goals in addition to implementing an action plan to achieve their goal.
Promotes student learning, development, and personal growth to empower self-sufficiency. Provides students with proactive referrals to appropriate resources and timely reminders, and other targeted individual and group communications using email, texting, and social media.
Collaborates with members of the campus community in student retention initiatives. Seeks opportunities to serve and contribute on appropriate committees and task forces across campus to advocate for students.
Conducts research on topics within the field of academic advising and assists in organizing activities for professional development. Keeps current on NCAA, SWAC, and PVAMU rules and regulations around student-athlete issues. Has thorough knowledge of NCAA policies, procedures, and rules that impact student-athlete eligibility and graduation.
Submits weekly academic updates to the head coach or designee to ensure student-athletes are tracking to maintain their athletic eligibility and are on track to graduate. Use EAB Navigate (student success platform) to maintain notes on caseload for more intensive advising.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree.
Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
