ASSISTANT ATHLETIC TRAINER

GENERAL SUMMARY :

Central Methodist University is currently accepting applications for full-time Assistant Athletic Trainers. As an Assistant Athletic Trainer, you will be part of a team with a goal of providing the highest quality health care to our student-athletes which includes assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Clinic. The position is a 10-month position (August-May).

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Athletic training coverage and services for assigned team practices and events.
2. Provide appropriate procedures for first aid, prevention, assessment, and treatment of athletic injuries during assigned treatment hours.
3. Maintain accurate electronic medical records and associated documentation for student-athletes.
4. Assist in the oversight, maintenance and inventory of athletic training facilities, equipment, and supplies.
5. Communicate and coordinate with the Director of Athletic Training Services, physicians, and coaches on the injury status of student-athletes.
6. Other duties as assigned

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

• • Provide day-to-day Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Clinic management.
  • Assist in maintaining of the Athletic Training and Rehabilitation Clinic policy and procedures manual.
  • Administer modalities under the supervision of a physician.
  • Assist in the administration of the drug education program for all athletes.
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of students.

• Further professional development by participation in professional organizations and/or continuing education programs and workshops.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS :

• Currently licensed (or eligible) by the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts as an Athletic Trainer.
• Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. Master’s degree preferred.
• BOC Certified Athletic Trainer.
• Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification.
• Experience in clinical setting preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Frequently stand for at least one hour consecutively.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Able to effectively complete the typical professional AT workload.
• Speak loudly and clearly enough to be understood by students.

Must be able to utilize effective communication with peers, subordinates, students and their families, and other educational providers. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Ability to effectively interpret and process written and verbal information.
• Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with students, peers, clients/families, healthcare professionals, and others within the community.
• Ability to access information and to communicate and document effectively via computer.
• Ability to recognize, interpret, and respond to nonverbal behavior of self and others.
• Consistently demonstrate a professional presentation that upholds the Central Methodist University mission statements and philosophy.

Behavior
Must be capable of exercising good judgment, developing empathetic and therapeutic relationships with students, clients and others. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Ability to work with multiple students/families and colleagues at the same time.
• Ability to foster and maintain cooperative and collegial relationships with students and peers.

Critical Thinking
Must possess sufficient abilities in the areas of calculation, critical problem solving, reasoning, and judgment to be able to comprehend and process information within a reasonable time frame as determined by the profession. Must be able to prioritize, organize, and attend to responsibilities efficiently. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Ability to collect, interpret and analyze written, verbal and observed data.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, integrate information and make decisions.

OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES:

1. Ability to work on weekends, evenings and various climates.
2. Contributes to monitoring and evaluating of students.
3. Supports and contributes creatively the work and efforts of colleagues in achieving the programmatic, divisional, and institutional mission and vision.
4. Provide Athletic Training Services for youth summer camps for additional compensation.
