The Athletics Department is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer: Women’s Soccer. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.). Oregon State University Athletic Training is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Athletic Trainer position with the sport assignment of Women’s Soccer. The successful candidate will work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and gain professional experience in the Division 1 setting. Located in the mid-Willamette Valley, this classic “college town” enjoys easy access to the Oregon Coast, Cascade Mountain range and Oregon wine country. Anticipated start date January 8th. Job duties will include but are not limited to: injury/illness prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation; practice/event coverage; and day-to-day communication with coaches, supervising athletic trainers, and other healthcare providers. OSU Athletic trainers are responsible for supervision of entry-level master’s athletic training students, assisting in the daily operations of the Athletic Training facilities and administrative duties as assigned. 40% SPORT COVERAGE Typically provides direct care for athletic team activities. Responsible for the coverage of Oregon State University athletic teams as assigned. Provides athletic training services to physically active individuals within the athletic department. Assists in facilitating and implementing all aspects of health care for assigned team, including but not limited to: prevention, practice/event coverage, injury evaluation, physician referral, medical appointments, treatment and rehabilitation and team travel. Responsible for activating the Emergency Action Plan for sports/venues as assigned. 20% ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES Maintains proper medical records in accordance with all government and university guidelines. Adheres to existing University and appropriate external regulatory agency (i.e., NATABOC, OHLA, NCAA) guidelines and safety policies. Completes appropriate paperwork, including but not limited to: incident or injury reports for departmental accountability. Assists with sports medicine department administrative duties as assigned (no solo responsibilities). 15% LEAD WORK and/or SUPERVISION Provides leadership, supervision, direction, and mentorship for athletic training students. Plans, assigns, and reviews work. Establishes goals and assesses performance through completion of evaluations. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal. Acts as a mentor for athletic training fellows. 15% COMMUNICATION Responsible for basic day-to-day communication (including participation status) with athletes, coaches, strength & conditioning staff, physicians, sports medicine staff, athletic department staff, and administration as assigned. 10% CONTINUING EDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Earns and maintains appropriate professional certifications. Displays a willingness to learn and is building upon exposure to advanced topics and skills within the field of athletic training. Stays current in related research and trends. Seeks to expand working knowledge.
Master’s degree. Current National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification. Eligibility for State of Oregon license. Certified Health Care Provider (CPR/AED). The ability to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing 50 pounds. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
Experience working in collegiate athletics. Basic understanding of NCAA Division I culture. Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Evening and weekend work required. Contingent upon being cleared to drive, may be asked to transport student athletes or others within a university owned vehicle, or assist with team travel. Exposure to bodily fluids. The ability to lift and move objects weighing 50 pounds. Access to confidential student records. May have access to persons under 18 years of age. Access to expensive equipment.
