About the Department

Athletics and Recreation sponsors 20 NCAA Division III varsity sports, in addition to a wide range of extracurricular programs, including 75 intramural and sport clubs and free weekly fitness classes.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Sports Information and Promotions, the Athletics Communications Assistant will support the overall mission and vision of the University of Chicago and the Athletics and Recreation Department by serving two main roles. The first will be to support the execution of departmental communications initiatives, including assisting in the development and maintenance of an effective and engaging strategy and presence with web and social media. The second will be to provide support with statistical coverage and game management responsibilities for athletic communications. This position will require the ability to handle a dynamic work schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. This is a full-time 12-month position with benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Performs sports information responsibilities as assigned and provide in-game statistical operations, oversee live stats and live video streaming, record/report statistical information, write game recaps, oversee table crew, and other game day operations. Writes pre and post season stories for designated teams. Prepares and submits nominations for student-athletes for conference, regional, and national recognition awards. Promotes recipients on website and social media pages.

  • In collaboration with the Deputy AD for Internal Operations and the Director of Sports Information and Promotions, develops the vision, strategy, and branding for sports programs by managing social media accounts, creating content, collaborate with and manage creative media students to create and design artwork, graphics, and content for a variety of platforms. Maintain ongoing understanding of industry trends, innovative platforms, and emerging media in a rapidly changing profession.

  • Produces original video content, game day graphics, publications (electronic newsletters, media guides, brochures) for the website, social medial pages, and video board. Assist with the oversight of digital platforms presentation and maintenance and with specialized content for coaches and department staff to assist in recruitment and retention of students.
