General Information:
James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking an Athletics Communication Assistant. The position will run from approximately late July through early June. Renewable for an additional 12 months by mutual decision.
This is a part-time wage position working up to 1,500 hours over the measurement period of May 1st - April 30th, at $14.79 an hour. This position is not eligible for benefits. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Assisting the Athletics Communication staff with coverage of 18 Division I sports with an emphasis on digital and social media; responsibilities will include a coverage of a fall sport (likely women’s soccer or secondary football) and a spring sport (lacrosse or softball) alongside significant contributions to men's and women's basketball coverage; collaborating with communications and other external relations staff on digital content development related to assigned sports; responsibility for game notes, game programs, website updates and social media content for assigned sports; and ensuring compliance with all relevant institutional, Sun Belt and NCAA rules. Emphasis is placed on constantly-evolving strategies and methods for content and promotion of an athletics program in the current digital age.
Qualifications:
Interested applicants must have some experience (academic year considered) in an intercollegiate or professional sports team's communications office, student assistant or internship experience is acceptable; must possess good writing and editing ability and knowledge of AP writing style; desktop publishing experience, experience in InDesign would be beneficial; as well as, Photoshop; and knowledge of various web software programs, game operations and various Stat Crew statistical programs. Candidates must be highly motivated, energetic and be able to manage a work schedule that includes some weekend work.

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
