Job Description:
Under the direction of the Athletics Communications Director, the Athletics Communications Coordinator promotes the sports activities of the Department of Athletics. Responsibilities include producing feature stories, news releases and game recaps and overseeing home game day activities, maintaining the athletics website (RWUHawks.com) and proactively publicizing Roger Williams University athletics through social media outlets.
Communications
Prepare press releases and game day stories to be published on the website and distributed to a variety of external media including social media sites.
Produce storytelling articles and video to strengthen the visibility of athletics on campus and in the community through coach and athlete interviews, game day videos and the creation of compelling visuals through graphic design.
Game Day Management and Analysis
Oversee home event management, working with the coaches and directing student staff.
Conduct online streaming contests and other crowd entertainment activities, provide game commentary and announcements.
Utilize the Stat Crew Program to compile and record statistics to fulfill statistical requirements for the Conference of New England (CNE) and NCAA.
Athletic Promotions
Assist with the research and determination of Student-Athlete award nominations including conference and national honors. Promote nominations and selected awardees via social media and other communications outlets.
Work with the Athletics Communication Director and the University's Marketing and Communications (MARCOM) department to publicize and promote athletics at the University.
Assist with the marketing and promotion of athletic special events on campus and in social media. Participate in events as required.
This is a full-time (40 hours) 10 month position.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Experience with StatCrew, Abobe Design Suite, and website content management systems, such as SideArm.
Competent in using a variety of social media and other communication platforms to effectively promote athletics.
Ability to work independently and to successfully plan, manage and organize multiple events throughout the month and season.
Able to work evening and weekend hours, attend games and events.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
