Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T) is seeking applicants for the Director of Athletic Communications position. JOB FUNCTIONS:

General Responsibilities

• Coordinates the promotion of athletic events both on campus and in the community using social media posts and graphics, game day releases, and local, regional, and national media outlets.
• Creates written and graphical content celebrating awards achieved by student-athletes, coaches, and staff, as well as fact books, game notes, press releases, social media content and graphics, pre-game, and post-game recaps.
• Oversees both the organization and maintenance of all permanent records in Miner athletics including rosters, results of team contests and all relevant statistics, individual performances of interest, national and regional polls, and other information as appropriate.
• Responsible for all aspects of the website, including but not limited to design, accuracy, updates, maintenance, and content.
• Updates and develops creative content for social media sites.
• Ensures branding is a consistent image and follows university guidelines.
• Collaborates with the athletic administrators on the nomination of student-athletes for the NCAA and CoSIDA Academic All-America awards, Academic All-District and All-GLVC awards, and other general and sport specific conference, and national awards.
• Schedules headshots and team pictures for all 17 athletic programs, coaches, and staff. Coordinates with campus photographer for action shots and / or serves as ad hoc photographer.
• Serves as key member of the athletic administrative team.
• Collaborates and builds positive relationships with other colleagues on campus and in the community, coaching staff, student-athletes, the GLVC and NCAA.
• Attends annual conventions for CoSIDA and CSC.

Game Day Responsibilities

• Organizes and coordinates all media operations related to an athletic event which includes but not limited to hiring score board operators, statisticians, public address announcers, and play-by-play announcers. Includes coordination with local radio stations and live game announcing and radio broadcasting at select away games for basketball and football.
• Oversees, schedules, and provides training to game day staff on statistical software and stat collection for all home contests.
• Prepares game day scripts including but not limited to, starting line-ups, special recognition events, corporate club acknowledgement, and in-game promotions and contests.
• Prepares written press releases after home games and reports scores to the public.
• Coordinates, manages, and troubleshoots livestream video for home events.
• Oversees and trains student workers on an annual basis.

Shift

Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, along with traveling with teams to select events is required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• A master’s degree is preferred in Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, or a closely related field
• Experience in sports information, brand marketing, public relations, and/or advertising
• Experience in collegiate athletics or professional athletics
• Strong writing skills and a creative mindset
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro is preferred
• Working knowledge of NCAA LiveStats, Stat Crew, and PrestoSports statistical software
• Working knowledge of livestreaming and broadcasting events using Production Truck
• Knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and regulations, media practices, and procedures
• Experience in public address, radio, or video work
• Ability to manage precise details from beginning to end
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work, as well as meet timelines on multiple projects simultaneously as well as complete projects by enlisting the cooperation of others

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,000 -$59,000 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
