The Athletics Event Services position is responsible for providing key support for University Athletics events and helps to maintain the overall operations of a variety of University Athletics facilities. Support for University Athletics events includes but is not limited to major event set-ups and tear-downs, moving furniture, cleaning, and preparation for event turnover. This position will support events such as
NCAA
athletic competitions, student orientation weekend, commencement, and other community special events held in the Athletics facilities.
The work is physical and often requires heavy lifting. Daily tasks will be performed based on the needs of the Athletics Department, assigned work orders, and designated projects. Overtime may be required and/or assigned to support University events as needed. This position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Game Operations.

Perform set-up at event locations; this includes but is not limited to, setting up basketball hoops, volleyball nets, soccer goal tents, staging, chairs and tables, and modifying overall room layouts based on the purpose of the space.
Perform turnover and tear down at event locations, including dismantling and storing all equipment, staging and seating, and signage after event.
Perform event set-up, turnover, and tear down and provide light custodial services to assigned areas as needed.
Navigate athletic areas across campus carrying materials and supplies for on-site athletic event setup and tear down using University owned motorized vehicles.
Assist with athletic laundry services, including operating and maintaining laundry equipment to ensure the cleanliness of uniforms, towels, and linens. Fold and organize clean laundry for easy distribution.
Respond to work orders as directed by supervisor and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner to maintain function and cleanliness of athletic event locations.
Support in game management as needed to ensure spectators do not gain entry to access points designated for use by student athletes, coaches, and game officials.
Provide excellent customer service to student athletes, coaches, spectators, and other event attendees.
Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associates Degree.
Preferred: Prior events set-up and teardown experience in athletics setting.
Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.
Required: Valid driver’s license.
Superior attention to detail.
Strong customer service orientation.
Ability to read, understand, and carry out labels, directions and work orders.
Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, generally in a sequence or with scheduled work activities occurring on a regular basis.
Knowledge of
OSHA
/safety regulations and ability to become certified in various training.
Ability to operate basic tools and equipment, i.e. basic hand tools, forklift, high lift, pallet jack, power washer, etc.
Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes.
Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), the internet, and computerized maintenance management systems.
All University of Portland positions require the ability to quickly learn and use new technologies, software, and applications in depth and at level of proficiency required for duties of the position. In most situations, the necessity of learning, using, and supporting new technologies, software, and/or applications does not change a job description nor make the position one that involves higher level duties.
Frequently: stand, walk, bend, use fingers and hands to handle materials and tools or equipment, and reach with hands and/or arms.
Occasionally: sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Frequently: lift and/or move up to 70 pounds with or without assistance and with or without the use of devices and/or equipment to assist in the lifting effort.
Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and others as necessary.
As necessary: ability to travel by car or air; ability to drive a vehicle.
Overtime hours may be required with little or no notice.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles or blood borne pathogens and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock and works with vibration causing tools or equipment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
