Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations, the Media Relations Assistant will work with several Towson teams for athletics communications. This individual will serve as a member of the external leadership team and will assist in all aspects of the department's verbal, written, video and internet-based communication. The Media Relations Assistant will also serve as the primary contact for coverage for assigned sports, assist with game day duties at athletic events, and aid in creating content and developing initiatives in new/social media and multimedia for the department's website and social media.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Media Relations Assistant will be involved in all aspects of specified Towson sports, as well as perform other duties in the Towson Athletics Media Relations department. Primary responsibilities include:

• Assisting with game day duties at athletic events
• Aiding in creating content and helping to further develop initiatives in new/social media and multimedia on the department's official website
• Preparing athletic press releases and statistics for website and media outlets
• Serving as the primary sports contact for assigned sports
• Coordinating the preparation of media coverage for award nominations
• Overseeing media interviews for coaches and student-athletes to generate publicity and exposure
• Covering home events and special projects/events
• Managing in-game scoring statistics and game day operations for various sports

The work hours for this position include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Travel is required. This position is a full-time, 6-month contractual position.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree
• Proficiency in social media platforms, primarily Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and Instagram
• Ability to create press releases and deliver quickly in a professional manner
• Working knowledge of statistical programs used by the NCAA, including Statcrew and Genius Sports
• Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Photoshop

Preferred Qualification:

• One year of experience in athletics media relations or a related field, including experience as a graduate assistant or student employee

Salary and Benefits
