Experience with maintenance on baseball or softball infield skin and clay areas.
Experience working with irrigation systems.
Commercial pesticide applicator license.
Experience operating a snow blade.
Degree in related field (horticulture, turf management, agronomy, etc).

Job Description:

The ISU Athletics Department is accepting applications for a Turf and Field Management Assistant. This position will support in the maintenance and preparation for optimum playing surfaces, surrounding turf areas, and the common grounds for the Athletics Department facilities.

• Prepares fields/grounds for competitions by laying out and painting field stripes, logos, markings, signage, etc. according to regulations for each sport.  
• Maintains grounds via mowing, landscaping, aeration, chemical application, irrigation, debris clean-up, pruning, winter snow removal, moving equipment and signage, etc.
• Supervises the access and use of assigned areas while maintaining optimum playing conditions.
• Performs routine equipment maintenance and irrigation repairs.
• Regularly assesses weather conditions, renders advice or opinions, handles conversion and protection of athletic fields during special events.
• Builds and manages internal and external business relationships.
• Assists with student training and supervision.
• Responsible for commitment to compliance with NCAA, conference, university, and department regulations and processes.

The successful candidate will have sound knowledge of turf management principles including experience with a variety of sports and playing surfaces; an understanding of governing requirements for field layouts and markings; the ability to problem solve and communicate effectively with others.   Requires the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions; regular walking, pushing, bending and pulling; ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs; and the ability work non-traditional hours based on weather conditions and to work at assigned events. Finalists will be expected to obtain and maintain an Iowa Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.

• May provide supervision to one to two other staff or lead a small work team
