This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Support Services (Athletics Tutor) positions for the Academics for Student Athletes (
ASA
) department at Oregon State University (
OSU
).
Through several learning services, Academics for Student Athletes provides academic and personal support to student athletes at Oregon State University (
OSU
). Tutoring students in specific courses and communicating with Academics for Student Athletes (
ASA
) staff about student progress are the two coequal purposes of this position.

Anticipated hourly rate: $15.15
Tutor students in both context areas and academic skills (time management, note taking, organization, etc.). This requires differentiating instruction/assistance to match the strengths of the student.
Keep your availability (day/time and course) up to date on our online scheduling system and document all sessions thoroughly using ASA’s online documentation system.
Attend mandatory training at the beginning of each term and as offered throughout the term. Tutors also need to take initiative to communicate directly, as situations warrant, with
ASA
Counselors.

Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (
USCIS
). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (
OIS
), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Must be punctual and extremely trustworthy.
Must be able to work independently and effectively without constant direct supervision.
Must be able to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
Must be able to follow
ASA
Professional Distance Policy.
ASA
defines professional distance as being friendly with student athletes, but not necessarily being a friend. Our professional distance policy prevents
ASA
student staff from spending time with student athletes outside of their tutoring or study facilitation sessions. This also includes any non-professional relationships with student athletes; friendships or fraternization and romantic relationships. Examples of non-professional relationships that may breach ASA’s professional distance policy might include:
Being a roommate with an
OSU
student athlete
A living situation where a student athlete might regularly visit. For example a roommate has a sibling on OSU’s roster
Dating a student athlete
Having a close friendship with a student athlete
At least a 3.0 overall
GPA
Prior tutoring experience
Previous leadership experience
Experience working with diverse groups of people, especially students.
Familiarity with the series of interest in OSU’s context.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
