The University of South Carolina Beaufort invites applications for a dynamic and visionary Associate Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics to lead Sand Shark Athletics into its next era of excellence. Reporting directly to the Chancellor and serving as a key member of the executive team, the AVC provides strategic direction for all athletic programs, facilities, staff, and student-athlete development. This senior leader oversees long-range planning, policy development, compliance with University, Peach Belt Conference, and NCAA regulations, and ensures that athletics remains aligned with USCB’s mission and institutional goals.
The successful candidate will guide the daily operations of the athletics department, including scheduling, scholarship planning, facility oversight, academic monitoring, and the overall student-athlete experience. They will lead and mentor coaches and athletics staff, cultivating a high-performance culture rooted in accountability, integrity, and collaboration. The AVC will also serve as the chief financial steward for Sand Shark Athletics—preparing and managing budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and working closely with University Development to build strong donor relationships and secure external support.
This role is highly collaborative, requiring strong relationships with campus partners, students, families, alumni, and community stakeholders. The AVC represents USCB Athletics on and off campus, maintaining a positive public image and advocating for the needs of the department within regional and national organizations.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field and bring at least ten years of relevant experience, including leadership and management in collegiate athletics. A master’s degree is preferred. Demonstrated fundraising success, knowledge of NAIA or NCAA rules, excellent communication and organizational skills, and experience in event management, budgeting, staff supervision, and facility planning are essential.

Provide leadership in responding to student needs and campus issues related to all university athletic programs.
Provide leadership, oversight, consultation, and support for each of the functional areas supervised.

Monitor all scheduling of athletics contests and contractual agreements.
Assist in the planning and monitoring of the athletic scholarship program.
Oversight of the academic progress and development of student athletes.

Determine budget requirements for services and programs within athletics. Make decisions and ensures budget compliance.
Prepare and submit to the Vice Chancellor of Finance & Operations the budget plans and proposals for athletics, including any modification and augmentations and their justification.
Monitor spending allocations in budgets for areas supervised.
Monitor staff adherence to departmental and university budget policies.

Assess and provide input on the short and long range space needs of areas supervised.

Provide guidance to the Athletic Advisory Committee in recommending athletic policy.
Represent the interests of the Athletic Department in all area of the university.
Maintain a close working relationship with the Sports Information Department and a healthy public relations image of USCB Sand Shark Athletics within the community.
