Baseball Graduate Assistant Coach

The Athletics Department at Southwestern College is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Graduate Assistant Coach for the Baseball program.

Position Description:
The primary duty for the position is assisting the Head Baseball Coach in daily and game operations and help with the strength and conditioning program throughout the fall, winter and spring. The graduate assistant will work mainly with hitters and infielders on a daily basis within the SC Baseball philosophy.

This position is responsible for assisting the head and assistant coach in all phases of the SC varsity and junior varsity baseball programs (coaching, committing to academic progress and success of the student-athletes, recruiting, coordination of fundraisers, camps and clinics). The successful applicant must be able to do the following:

• Physically operate gameday  practices by throwing batting practice and hitting fungos
• Know how to use baseball software programs and operate systems regarding pitching and hitting equipment
• Be in charge of field duties and have the ability to set up and tear down practice and gameday equipment

Good character & communication skills, self-motivation, and leadership skills are essential. Graduate assistant coaches are expected to engage with a diverse student body by residing on campus, regularly dining in the cafeteria, and attending student-centered activities and events. Position compensated with graduate studies, housing, meal allowance, and coaching stipend.

This position is on a 10-month contract (August 1 – May 31)

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree and admission into a Southwestern College graduate program
• Ability to work independently and efficiently
• Applicant must be able to work an untraditional work schedule (i.e. frequent nights and weekends)
• Able to lift and move athletic equipment
• Driver’s license required, current CDL preferred

Compensation

• Stipend: $5,000/year
• Tuition: Full-tuition waiver
• Housing: On-campus apartment plus flex spending for on-campus meals
