Duties and Responsibilities

The Head Coach is expected to exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior in the execution of the duties and responsibilities of the position consistent with the mission and integrity of the institution, conference, and NCAA. The responsibilities of the Head Basketball Coach will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Organizing, planning, coordinating, conducting and supervising all aspects of a Division I Basketball Team and daily management of all phases of the Program that includes practice, game preparation and strategy; recruitment of student-athletes; Assistant Coach supervision; preparation and oversight of budget; promotional outreach and fundraising activities.
• Working closely with Academic Support and Student Development Units, responsible for the overall success, performance, and conduct of the Basketball program in the areas of Academics, Athletics and Student Athlete Conduct, and the recruitment, growth and development of Student Athletes.
• Promoting all aspects of the Basketball Program, the Athletics Department, and Loyola University of Chicago through marketing and public relations activities.
• Adherence to NCAA, Loyola University Chicago, and Atlantic 10 Conference rules and regulations and responsible for maintaining a culture of compliance as evidenced by actions of Staff members in the Program.
• Overseeing and coordinating applicable Camps and Clinics.
• Participating in community outreach and fund raising activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field and at least five years of related Coaching experience in a Division I School.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree preferred.
• The successful Candidate will have effective Leadership, Communication, Organizational, Interpersonal, Public Relations and Fundraising skills, and the ability to be aligned with the Mission & Identify of a Jesuit Institution.
• Demonstrated experience with the role of Intercollegiate Athletics in a highly competitive academic environment.
• Strong teaching and coaching skills with proven ability to lead and manage Staff; motivate Student-Athletes to maximize Athletics performance and developing them scholastically, and individually consistent with the Higher Education values of the University.
• Effective communication and organizational skills are required, with the proven ability to communicate constructively with student-athletes and demonstrated commitment to Student-Athlete welfare.
• Ability to build and maintain interpersonal positive relationships with Student-Athletes, Staff, and Alumni.
• Efficient in budgetary matters; experience in managing and participating in fundraising activities.
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience with NCAA and conference rules and regulations; commitment to the mission of Jesuit Higher Education.
