This non-clinical position assists students (specifically those involved in intercollegiate athletics) who are experiencing crisis or distress that impacts their social, personal, and/or academic stability. Triages reports and works with the Dean of Students and other staff to connect high-risk students to appropriate care/support. Assists with the management of individuals identified as “penguins of concern” including those who threaten or attempt to cause harm to themselves, and/or experience a significant disruption to their academics due to psychiatric, behavioral, mental-health, or physical issues (including sexual assault and intimate partner violence), and/or behave in a manner that may be worrisome to others and disruptive to the YSU community. Provides education and programming on relevant topics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Serves as a case manager for high-risk students, specifically student-athletes, and those dealing with extenuating circumstances. Triages initial “penguin of concern” reports and other referrals. Creates and maintains cases through the database system.
Works with key campus partners (including athletic training staff, athletic academic advisors, accessibility services, etc.) to coordinate non-clinical care for student-athletes (and the general student population as necessary) needing ongoing support, campus, and community referral, and/or assistance with coordination of care following hospitalization, mental/physical illness, injury, and/or other unique circumstances.
Assists with on-call responsibilities; works non-traditional hours, as necessary.
Serves as a member of the YSU CARE (Concern-Assessment-Referral- Education) Team and Student-Athlete of Concern Team as assigned.
Provides education and programming on relevant topics.
Collaborates with other campus offices and resources. Maintains a network of current resources available on campus and in the community; refers as appropriate.

Maintains ongoing case statistics to assist with routine reporting and other analytic/data requests.
Organizes and implements appropriate and timely programming to address current issues/concerns on campus as assigned.
Assists with marketing, promotion, and fundraising of the office as assigned.
Represents the office of the dean of students and the department of intercollegiate athletics at the campus, local, regional, and national level as requested/appropriate.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned.
Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Willingness and ability to work non-traditional hours (includes on-call responsibilities and attending to after-hours emergencies).
Supervision Exercised: Supervision is exercised over student employees.

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: relevant state and federal laws including FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and Title IX; social justice issues and concerns; issues common to college students, specifically difficult and sensitive circumstances; NCAA rules and best-practices.
Skill in: organization and communication.
Ability to: provide case management services to students whose disruption to academic progress is caused by a broader range of circumstances.

Minimum Qualifications: At least a master’s degree; two or more years of experience in higher education and intercollegiate athletics or a closely related setting. Demonstrated knowledge of crisis response, case management, or another related field.
Preferred Qualifications: Current, working knowledge of Maxient (or similar) software. Demonstrated experience in crisis response, case management, or another related field. Background in a healthcare-related field.
This is a grant funded position.
