East Tennessee State University (
ETSU
) is seeking an enthusiastic and spirited individual to embody our beloved mascot, Bucky the Buccaneer. The ideal candidate will bring energy, creativity, and a strong sense of school spirit to engage with students, alumni, and the community at various athletic events, university functions, and public appearances.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform as Bucky the Buccaneer at all designated
ETSU
athletic events, including but not limited to all home football and men’s and women’s basketball games
Represent
ETSU
at university functions, community events, and special appearances as scheduled.
Interact with fans, students, and community members to promote school spirit and enhance their relationship and experience with the university.
Participate in photo sessions, meet and greets, and promotional activities.
Maintain the mascot costume, ensuring it is clean and presentable for all appearances.
Collaborate with the marketing and athletics teams to develop and execute engaging and entertaining mascot routines and skits.
Adhere to the University Mascot Code of Conduct as well as the university’s policies and standards while serving as a positive role model for others.
Each Bucky Mascot will be expected to take responsibility for their transportation needs to and from events.

The role of a mascot can be physically demanding. It often involves wearing a heavy costume for extended periods, performing energetic routines, dancing, and interacting with fans, which can be physically exhausting. Mascots must have good stamina, strength, and agility to perform their roles effectively.
To retain their positions, each cast member must participate in at least 15 Bucky events per semester.
Must be a current
ETSU
student in good academic standing with no prior disciplinary issues.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of enthusiasm and school spirit.
Ability to perform physical activities, including dancing, jumping, and other movements, in a heavy and hot mascot costume.
Previous experience as a mascot or performer is a plus, but not required.
Must be available for flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to maintain a high level of energy and enthusiasm throughout events.
Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor.

$10 per hour
