Other Conditions: Position is a temporary casual hire position for the Diamond Head Classic Basketball Tournament – December 18-24, 2023.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Head Certified Athletic Trainer or designee, individual will be responsible for recognizing, training, rehabilitating, and providing emergency care and first aid for injuries and illnesses to intercollegiate student-athletes.
Provide coverage of workouts and/or practices.
Administer pre-participation physicals to meet NCAA Division I standards.
In case of major injury or illness, refer the student-athlete to the Team Physician. If the Team Physician or Head Athletic Trainer cannot be contacted in emergency situations, make arrangements for the student-athlete to receive competent medical care.
May supervise student athletic trainers.
Operate, supervise and maintain the Athletic Training Facilities and equipment.
If necessary, coordinate medical appointments and transportation for the student-athlete.
Promote and maintain an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawai‘i policies.
Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
Maintain collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the Athletics Department.
Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future.
Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others have occurred or will occur.
Other Duties As Assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Board of Certification (BOC) for the Athletic Trainer.
Valid CPR/AED Certification.
Some intercollegiate sports medicine experience
Valid driver’s license
Must possess current Certified Athletic Trainer License with the State of Hawai‘i and be in good standing
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
