The Athletic Trainer will work collaboratively with Baseball coaches, team physicians, and administrators to ensure our student-athletes are provided with services that center on prevention, emergency care, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. This is a 12-month position which requires work and travel throughout the year.
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field
Board of Certification recognition as a certified athletic trainer
Eligibility to meet Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Licensure
Minimum 2 of years athletic training experience.
30% – Consultations/Evaluations:
Recognize and evaluate injuries and illnesses both on the field and in the athletic training room. Determine correct course of action i.e. return to play, emergency transport, physicians visit or therapy visit. Organize and implement pre-season team physicals. Maintain a thorough tracking system for doctor referrals for both on site and off site appointments. Coordinate treatment protocols with team physicians.
30% Treatments/Rehabilitation:
Set up and implement proper treatment/rehabilitation protocols. Determine which exercises and modalities are needed to effectively return athlete to play. Follow through with athletes both in-season and off-season about ongoing rehabilitation. Keep current standard rehabilitation protocols updated. Develop, implement and evaluate rehabilitation programs on a daily basis until patient is medically cleared to return to play. Develop specialized rehabilitation skill.
20% – Event Coverage/Travel:
On site coverage for various sporting event throughout the year. Travel to all events with team assigned. Requires numerous weekends and holidays along with many 7 day work weeks throughout the year. Provide athletic training coverage for practices and games as assigned. Monitor secondary sport as assigned.
10% – Administration:
Record keeping for all daily athletic injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation. Orient coaches and student athletes on athletic training room policy and procedures. Maintain communication with the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Health, coaches and administration. Coordinate the collection and filing of all insurance claims. Communicate with student athletes and parents on insurance policy and procedure.
10%- Maintenance
This position will require maintaining our therapy pools and equipment. This will require gaining a certification in pool management to be able to certify our pools. They will also schedule and coordinate all upkeep of therapy equipment located in various facilities.
