Position Summary:

The Cheer Apprentice will work closely with the Head Coach and coaching staff to support the development, growth, safety, and success of the cheerleading program. This position will assist with practices, athlete development, skill instruction, and team preparation while helping maintain a positive, disciplined, and team-first environment. The Cheer Apprentice is expected to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and operate within the coaching structure of the program. The Head Coach will maintain overall responsibility for team decisions, training plans, athlete assignments, competition preparation, and program direction.

The Cheer Apprentice should be willing to learn, take initiative, provide constructive feedback, and contribute consistently to the continued growth and success of the program.

Minimum Qualifications** :**

• Previous competitive cheerleading and/or coaching experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cheerleading technique, stunting, tumbling, jumps, and safety practices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with collegiate athletes.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Attend and actively participate in at least two team practices per week , with practices generally lasting approximately 2–2.5 hours.
• Assist the Head Coach with planning and conducting practices, including warm-ups, conditioning, skill development, stunt work, tumbling, jumps, and choreography.
• Help athletes develop proper technique, execution, and safety awareness in all aspects of cheerleading.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction to athletes who need additional support or skill development.
• Assist in identifying areas for athlete improvement and communicate observations and recommendations to the Head Coach.
• Help create a safe training environment by reinforcing proper spotting techniques, progressions, and safety procedures.
• Support the Head Coach in developing athletes both individually and as a team.
• Assist with preparation for competitions, performances, and other team events as assigned.
• Help foster a positive team culture centered on hard work, dedication, accountability, and a team-first mentality.
• Serve as a positive role model and representative of the cheerleading program.
• Follow all university, athletic department, and cheerleading program policies and expectations.
• Perform other coaching-related duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities required. 

Work Hours:
Part-time, less than 20 hours per week. Nights/weekends as needed.

Appointment Length:

9 months, continuous (August - April)

Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:
Long periods of Physical exertion. Work is performed inside and outside in all weather conditions. Prolonged periods of standing are required. Must have the ability to travel short distances. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Responsible employee
Any employee who is not a confidential employee. Travel Requirements** : **  
Occasional travel required. Occasional overnight stays. Ability to travel locally, statewide, or regionally as needed for team events, recruiting, etc., which requires frequent driving.   Due to insurance requirements, employees operating university vehicles or performing any driving activity in one’s own personal vehicle for Brenau purposes must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Georgia driver’s license, and maintain a clean driving record.

Special Requirements:
Brenau University conducts various screenings to ensure a safe and secure environment. These checks are a condition of employment and may be performed at different times throughout employment. (1) Background Checks: All new hires must undergo a criminal background check. To maintain employment, individuals must have and maintain a favorable criminal history. The university may also conduct random background checks. Additional checks may be performed for certain roles. (2) Credit Checks: required for positions that handle university funds or credit cards or as otherwise required. (3) Motor Vehicle and Driving Checks: employees who operate a university vehicle or drive on university business must have a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) run as part of the new hire process or as the requirement to drive is added to job responsibilities. To be approved for university travel, employees must meet the following criteria: be at least 21 years old, have and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license, and have and maintain a good driving record. As a condition of employment, employees must report any arrest (within five days of its occurrence) to the Office of Human Resources, including traffic violations for those listed on our auto insurance policy. Disclosure of subsequent legal action (conviction, dismissal of charges, etc.) must also be reported to the Office of Human Resources. It will be evaluated considering continued employment with the immediate supervisor. (4) Drug Screening: pre-employment/post-offer drug screens and random drug screens are performed for certain sensitive positions. Random drug screens are also performed on those who travel regularly, or those who operate a university vehicle. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

• Must possess a valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record (MVR check required).
• Must be willing to submit to and pass a criminal background check.

Time-Off & Blackout Dates:
Time-off requests and university blackout periods are managed through the direct supervisor and the ADP employee portal.

Licensure Requirements:
 Proof of any professional degree, license, or certification (collectively, “Credentials”) required to competently perform the work for which the employee is hired must have been submitted at the time of application for the position. Discovery during the course of employee’s employment that applicable Credentials have lapsed, been terminated, were misrepresented, or were falsified may result in immediate termination of employee’s employment.
