JOB SUMMARY:Under specific/routine supervision, the Athletic Trainer for Club Sports will primarily assist with overall care of men’s and women’s club sport programs.Provides coverage for the club sports program at assigned games and practice sessions; provides quality care for athletic injuries including evaluation, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and related illnesses. Implementation of comprehensive concussion management program.Communicates with Head Club Sports Coaches, University Director of Health Services, and Director of Recreation & Club Sports of assigned programs regarding injuries, rehabilitation, and return to play protocol.Documentation of injuries; processes insurance claims; performs other administrative duties.Ensure club sport coaches and designated team members are certified in CPR/AED and first aid.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide coverage at assigned games and practice sessions. Serve as primary ATC for club football, men’s and women’s club lacrosse, and men’s and women’s club basketball and all other club team positions. Provide coverage at specified times in the Physical Education Complex. Provide quality care for athletic injuries including evaluation, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and related illness. Documents injuries through a system in compliance with HIPPA laws and regulations. Responsible for completion of clinic and insurance papers, coordinate arrangement of all referrals and treatments. Process insurance claims. Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Athletic trainer services will be available for all students to include all club sports participants, intramural participants and the entire student body. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the operation of treatment areas at practice, game, and office sites. Ensure appropriate supplies are available in treatment areas as well as keeping treatment areas clean and organized. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform other administrative duties as they arise. Assist in ordering equipment and Athletic Training supplies.
EDUCATION: Bachelor degree in athletic training or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. EXPERIENCE: NATA certification required. Upstanding license in the state of Maryland or the ability to gain certification within the 60 days of first contact with a student-athlete. American Red Cross CPR/FA certification. American Red Cross CPR/AED and FA instructor preferred. Valid driver’s license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to perform athletic training skills for men’s and women’s club sports program. Knowledge of techniques for caring for injuries, rehabilitation, and prevention. Ability to receive telephone calls, respond to inquiries, and communicate with others by telephone. Ability to travel. Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business.
Must be available to work evenings and weekends and to travel, as needed.
