Position Summary

The Head Coach will be responsible for recruiting and retaining players, practice preparation, game-day coaching, and other administrative duties for the team. This part-time position will run from September 1st to April 30th of each academic year.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsible for the recruitment of prospective students who will meet University admission standards
• Responsible for all league required paperwork, as well as understanding all rules associated
• Foster and enhance relationships with other coaches
• Responsible for the retention of all team members, particularly first-year students, and ensuring their seamless transition into college.
• Work with the Club Sports staff to develop a cohesive program and highlight those via social media and the Club Sports website.
• Develop a recruitment plan beyond the upcoming season
• Create and implement a weekly practice plan to ensure all team members are prepared for competition
• Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
• Prepare, plan, and coordinate practice schedule for each week
• Provide proper and high-end instruction to student-athletes
• Work with the Athletic Training staff and Strength and Conditioning staff on player safety and development
• Oversee all game day responsibilities, including game planning, transportation, and game roster
• Work closely with the Director of Club Sports and Intramurals on preparation of the season, schedule, and recruitment
• Responsible for recruitment and retention of club softball student-athletes
• Manage coaching staff and student manager staff as hired
• Maintain a close working relationship with the league
• Other duties assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes

• Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience at the high school, prep, junior or collegiate level
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends as the vast majority of games are Friday-Sunday
• Possess experience working with diverse staff, including college-age students
• Must maintain coaching certification or be willing to acquire certification
