Job Summary: Morningside University is looking to fill the position of Communication & Athletic Information Specialist in the university engagement department. This position supports the marketing and communication efforts of the campus by helping share written stories about Morningside. This individual will work with clients across the campus community to provide written news content, press releases, podcasts, photography, and videography; provide editing services and assist with the campus websites.

Job Summary: Morningside University is looking to fill the position of Communication & Athletic Information Specialist in the university engagement department. This position supports the marketing and communication efforts of the campus by helping share written stories about Morningside. This individual will work with clients across the campus community to provide written news content, press releases, podcasts, photography, and videography; provide editing services and assist with the campus websites.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Writing, Editing, & Content Management

• Assist with the development and editing of stories for the Morningsider
• Write and create profiles of individuals within the campus community
• Assist with basic web content updates
• Provide support for podcasts or other nontraditional platforms
• Assist with photography and videography
• Serve as backup and support for the social media and digital content specialist

Sports Information

• Assist the sports information director with event management and athletic contest results
• Serve as back-up to the sports information director
• Supply long-form stories profiling athletes
• Work with coaches and athletic departments to assist with planning and executing media days
• Write award submissions for various conference and national honors

Media Relations

• Provide media relations support to the campus and athletics
• Develop trusting, productive working relationships with local reporters
• Answer calls for media requests on campus, working to arrange interviews, photo/video shoots, etc.
• Assist with sending out news releases and pitching stories to news outlets
• Monitor media clippings and pitch stories to news outlets

Qualifications

• Exceptional writing and editing skills demonstrated through experience with a variety of print and digital media
• Understanding of or experience with media relations
• Strong analytical skills for presenting complex information
• Ability to work at a quick pace under pressure in order to meet deadlines
• Excellent oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills; strong organizational skills
• Cultural competence and mindfulness of equity and inclusion
• Technologically savvy, experience with social media, video editing, photo management
• Background working in content management systems, understanding of athletics, photography/videography skills preferred
• Bachelor’s degree required in communication, English, journalism, or related field
• At least one year of related work experience
