Grand Valley State is seeking a highly qualified candidates for a communications assistant in the Athletic Communications office for the 2024-25 academic year. Grand Valley State offers 22 varsity sports and is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II level.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Handle all duties as related to the day-to-day operations, including but not limited to social media publicity efforts, creating and developing online content, writing news releases and feature stories, maintaining online record books and assisting with the production of various game day programs and flip cards. Execute duties associated with various home events and NCAA Championship events hosted by Grand Valley State University. Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in sport management, communications, journalism or other related field.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; organizational and time management skills also key.
Ability to establish close working relationships with department administrators and coaches.
Proficiency with social media platforms such as Twitter (X), Instagram, and Facebook.

Video editing, graphic design and desktop publishing experience via Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Premiere Pro, Photoshop, QuarkXpress, InDesign).
Knowledge of stat capture applications such as NCAA Live Stats, StatCrew and Presto.
Video streaming/production via Blueframe’s Production Truck software.
Bring creative ideas to enhance Grand Valley State’s coverage through all facets, as well as through the local media.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office environment. Flexible office hours. Some travel may be required. Nights and weekends are required.

SALARY
$14,000 annually plus limited benefits including tuition waiver.
