This is a 12- month Wellness Center staff position. This position will serve as a counseling resource to the College community by performing such duties as individual counseling (based on a brief therapy model/philosophy), crisis intervention, assessment, case management, referral, training, group counseling, and on-call responsibilities. In addition, participation in campus events such as orientations and outreach programming for the college community in areas related to student health and belonging.
Customer service is critical to the success of any organization that deals with customers. Strong customer service skills can build retention and visibility as NCC strives to distinguish itself from its competitors. An individual in this position must possess the proficiency, wherewithal and knowledge of principles and processes for providing high-quality customer and personal services to both internal and external customers of the College.1. Ability to consistently demonstrate outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the College, in groups or individually, either on the telephone, video call and in person2. Ability to demonstrate a professional, positive attitude and work ethic3. Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities4. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds during a time of crisis and distress5. Demonstrated commitment to supporting communities who have experienced systemic oppression and bias (e.g. people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice involved persons, etc.)6. Ability to show empathy and be nonjudgmental towards distressed individuals7. Excellent organizational and communication skills8. Strong critical thinking and sound judgment9. Experience navigating computer systems and ability to comply with data integrity and security policies, safeguarding all personally identifiable information10. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in time-limited and short-term counseling11. Possess excellent counseling and assessment skills with the ability to facilitate group interaction as well as individual counseling12. Strong ability to manage a crisis situation and to follow-up with students, and their families as appropriate, who have experienced a traumatic event13. Strong ability to work with electronic records system, Titanium, as well as scan, and use technology regularly. Interest in gaining technological skills to work most efficiently14. Ability to work effectively as a member of a staff where teamwork and cooperation are the rule. This includes the ability to communicate directly, professionally, and respectfully both positive and critical feedback15. Ability to communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including making oral presentations to groups and contributing to the development of high-quality written materials which reflect positively on the College16. Ability to quickly grasp knowledge of the College organization and operation especially as it relates to the Dyson Wellness Center17. Ability to show empathy and be nonjudgmental toward distressed individuals18. Excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills19. Strong critical thinking and sound judgment20. Ability to work quickly and work well in a high-demand environment.
The person in this position assists the Director of the Wellness Center and Director of Counseling by providing counseling services and consultations to current students of the College, and administrative duties supporting the counseling services. In addition, this position serves as a leader for sport and performance related initiatives by working closely with athletic staff and trainers. In conjunction with the Director of Counseling, the person in this position may provide leadership for the counselors such as case documentation oversight and supervision as needed. The position is collaborative with their colleagues to promote and facilitate prevention education programs and campus outreach to contribute to a culture of belonging.The position will require evening and weekend hours as needed to meet the needs of a residential campus.
Master’s degree in counseling or clinical psychology, social work, or a related field.
Minimum of one year clinical mental health counseling experience and work with athletes including individual and group therapies, crisis intervention, outreach and psychoeducational programming. A strong desire to work with young adult/college aged populations and possesses multicultural competence. Some experience in a higher education academic setting is preferred, as well as experience working with eating disorders, substance abuse/addictions, and/or neurodivergent disorders preferred. Sport psychology background preferred.
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.This position requires a current professional license in the state of Illinois: Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Psychologist or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
