The Multimedia Specialist works in the areas of photography and graphic design in creating and gathering creative assets in the support of recruiting prospective student-athletes, prospective and current Virginia fans, and in the marketing and promotion of the overall Athletic Department. The Multimedia Specialist captures and distributes creative assets and deliverables to a variety of groups, including, but not limited to alumni, fans, donors, parents, faculty, and staff.
The successful candidate will:
Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external constituencies.
Serve as a staff photographer for Virginia Athletics with additional responsibilities in graphic design.
Plan and execute specialty shoots, athletic event coverage, recruiting visits and the distribution and archiving of all photographic assets.
Supervise and schedule of student photographers and graphic designers.
Adhere to the overall visual style and brand of Virginia Athletics in collaboration with the Assistant Directors of Photography and Multimedia Design.
The incumbent sets the day-to-day schedule as dictated by the needs of the Athletics Department and has the authority to take initiative in the creative process from concept to delivery under the overall creative direction and quality control of the Assistant Directors of Photography and Multimedia Design. Work will on occasion be reviewed in an effort to receive feedback and direction. This position requires a flexible schedule: evening and weekend hours required. Initiates communication and collaborates with various internal and external constituencies to gather information and ideas. Accountable for NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations. Consults with the Director of Creative Services when faced with a more challenging problem or situation beyond the scope of their duties or expertise.

Responsibilities:
Sets and helps maintain the brand of Virginia Athletics through all gathered photo assets with a strict adherence to brand and creative standards.
Develops and fosters a relationship with each Athletics program in order to provide the best possible customer service in areas of athletic event coverage, creative specialty shoots, and recruiting materials.
Works with the Social Media Committee, Marketing & Promotions, VSP, Athletic Communications, and other internal departments and programs to meet deadlines for specific campaigns and deliverables.
Assists the Assistant Director of Multimedia Design in the creation and execution of templates and specialty graphics.
Acts as supervisor for recruiting and special photo projects of Virginia Athletics sport programs in order to dynamically service the social media and recruiting needs of those constituencies.
Collaborates with internal and Creative Services departments in the execution of brand strategy including the capture of photographic assets.
Assists in instruction of student photographers and aids in the day-to-day operation of the Student Photographer program.
Completes photo projects and shoots on-time and to exacting specifications included but not limited to: home, road, and championship event coverage to include in-game file transmission, staff headshots, digital and print advertisement assets, posters, and special projects as assigned.
Other Responsibilities:
Keeps current and aware of new styles, elements, techniques, and software within modern photography and graphic design.
Works collaboratively with Creative Services and other units to deliver a consistent, high-quality visual style across all properties, campaigns, and efforts.
Communicates clearly to express thoughts and ideas.
Manages multiple projects effectively.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Ability to utilize standard principles of photo design and lighting while demonstrating a high level of proficiency or mastery in editing software (Photoshop, Lightroom).
Demonstrate a high-level understanding of not only Virginia Athletics brand standards, but also of the unique characteristics of the University of Virginia and its traditions.
Strong communication skills in dealing with multiple constituencies and in conveying messaging to external audiences.
Advanced knowledge of computers and software: Microsoft Office; FTP and other cloud storage and distribution methods; Adobe Product Suite including Photoshop, Lightroom, Camera RAW, InDesign, Bridge.
The ability to learn and develop new, relevant technology skills when required.
Minimum Requirements:
At least one year of experience.
Bachelor’s degree.
Digital Portfolio of applicable work required for all applicants.

Physical Demands:
This is a job that requires some physical activity including walking, lifting and carrying heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds), bending over/stooping and climbing ladders or stairs to capture different photographic angles, and working in a variety of extreme weather conditions. Extensive use of desktop computers and some sedentary work required. Some travel may be required.
