Job Title: Dance Team Coach

Reports to: Director of Athletics
FLSA Status: Exempt – 10-month assignment
General Function
Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Dance Team Coach is responsible for the management and administration of all activities related to Dance, and the College Mascot and exercises direct supervision of recruiting, training, and coaching student-athletes participating in these activities. The Dance Team Coach also serves to support spectator and student engagement during athletic contests assisting with designing and implementing programs that incorporate school spirit activation in new or long-standing College events and activities. At William Jewell College, co-curricular activities are a meaningful part of a student’s educational experience, and all staff are committed to supporting academic excellence and graduation by monitoring students’ academic progress, well-being, and class attendance. As a member of the Jewell Community, the Dance Team Coach is fully responsible for compliance with policies and procedures as well as all applicable bylaws of the governing body of the sport, compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations, as well as Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) rules and all College policies and procedures serving as the model for appropriate conduct towards officials, spectators, and athletes while being committed to equity and inclusion in all activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience as a coach or athlete in a collegiate level Dance/Spirit program. Preference given to candidates with head coach experience.
Bachelor’s degree. Preference given to candidates with degrees or experience in marketing, project management, event planning or physical education.
Ability to work effectively to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, alumni and College staff.
Organization skills and ability to clearly explain cheer and dance skills to students.
Must possess a sufficient knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques for cheer and dance.
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Have, or be willing to obtain, a Missouri Class E Driver’s License.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment as well as indoor and outdoor athletics facilities. Some travel required. Evening and weekend work required. Physically able to lift 25 pounds and attend practice and competitive sessions indoors and outdoors.
