| Job Summary/Basic Function |
This position primarily requires the overseeing of a defensive position group as well as the implementation of the defensive scheme and the recruitment of multiple geographic areas. The position requires the oversight of our special teams coaches, interns and student workers. Assist with planning of on-campus and off-campus events with alumni. Work with the social media team and members of the Living the Red Society board members to help market and promote Dickinson Football and events.
Essential Functions:
Teach, develop, and mentor players. In-season self-scout and analytics of Dickinson Defensive call tendencies. Off-season scout and analyze the success of defensive structure, personnel assessment, and develop scheme adjustments. Run defensive meetings and assist position coaches with preparation for position meetings.
- Supervision of Defensive Coaching Staff & Film Staff:
Serve as the supervisor of the defensive coaching staff, monitoring and supervising all aspects of defensive coach responsibilities. Prioritize player preparation and excellent coach-player communication by ensuring that position manuals are prepared and distributed in a timely fashion, and that practice plans, drill work, and drill tapes all accurately reflect defensive philosophy and defensive concepts. Oversee the day-to-day functions of the defensive coaching staff, including preparation and execution of daily meetings, oversight of plans for individual sessions run by assistant coaches within their position groups, ensuring preparation of assistant coaches to promote successful position group meetings, and help to identify opportunity for the ongoing growth and development of direct reports.
Ensure filmers have cameras charged, provide practice scripts with periods to be filmed, and ensure practice film is uploaded after every practice. Ensure data filmers upload data to practice film and intercut all periods with both camera angles. Supervise filmers with game day set up for hudl sideline. Ensure all ipads are connected to the hudl network and operational 90 minutes prior to kick off. Ensure all home games are intercut with both camera angles and have the proper data uploaded by 9pm for Centennial Conference film exchange.
- Recruitment and Athlete Relations:
Responsible for managing and developing a designated geographic recruitment territory. Identify potential recruits, bringing talented student athletes to the program through scouting, evaluation, and regular (weekly) communication with prospective student-athletes and their families. Manage the recruiting database (e.g., Front Rush/Slate/Google Doc) and clearly communicate and represent the values and culture of the college and the football program during the recruiting process. Establish a strong pipeline of future student-athletes who align with the program’s mission through effective recruitment and establishment of relationships with high school coaches in region.
- Special Teams Support:
Assist with all aspect of special teams, Kick off, Punt, Punt Return, Kickoff Return, Field Goal, Field Goal Block, Hands Team, and Onside. Assist with personnel decisions, individual drills, scheme implementation, scouting reports, practice organization, and game day operations.
- Academic Support and Student-Athlete Welfare:
Serve as the primary point of contact for academic support for football student-athletes. Collaborate with academic advisors to ensure athletes are meeting academic expectations and balancing their academic and athletic commitments. Assist in scheduling and coordinating academic planning, ensuring players are staying on track with their coursework and graduation requirements.
- Alumni Relations:
Assist with planning of on campus and off campus events with alumni. Work with social media team and members of the Living the Red Society board members to help market and promote Dickinson Football and events
