Job Description

The Defensive Coordinator assists the Head Football Coach with all offensive schemes and offensive line players for the Mississippi Valley State University’s Football Program.

The Assistant Football Coach will work directly with the Head Football Coach on the offensive strategies for the

MVSU

Football Team.

Assists the head coach in developing a competent and effective coaching staff by recruiting and hiring qualified applicants, providing guidance on departmental or University policies and coaching philosophy, encouraging professional development through participation in coaching decisions and recruiting activities, making coaching assignments based upon qualifications, supervising coaching activities, and evaluating performances.

Supports established athletic fund-raising goals by actively participating in fund-raising events and promotional activities for intercollegiate athletics and represents the Head Athletics Coach at selected events when schedules conflict.

Promotes a positive image of the intercollegiate athletics program and the University by establishing and enforcing standards of personal behavior, conduct, and appearance for the coaching staff, athletes, and support personnel on and off the University campus, participating in community and professional organizations, representing the University at professional meetings and on community committees, establishing and maintaining credible relations with various news media.

Assists the head coach in the management of funds by providing input for the development of the annual Athletics Department budget. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Contributes to the overall success of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including representing the Head Athletics Coach in meetings and events.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Business Administration or related fields. Ability to operate laundry equipment. Keep equipment clean, sanitized and stored properly. Prepare inventory reports. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with football equipment management/repairs.

Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Prior experience working in an athletic equipment room.

Ability to establish good rapport and working relationships with student athletes, coaching staff, administration, university personnel, and the general public.
