Deputy Director of Athletics

Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA Division III level (primarily Centennial Conference) and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.

We are seeking a Deputy Athletics Director who will support and advance the mission of Johns Hopkins University, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Department of Athletics and Recreation. The strongest candidates will be innovative and forward-thinking leaders with a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment as well as a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, student-athletes, and coaches.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director of Athletics & Recreation in leading and managing the daily operations of the department. Serves on the AD’s Cabinet.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with staff, students, families, and alumni.
  • Directly supervises multiple functional areas within the department which may include (but are not limited to) Finance, HR, Recreation, & Facility/Event Operations. Additionally, provides leadership and support to a team of sports administrators.
  • Serves as the lead sports administrator for select D-III programs.
  • Participates in the hiring of staff and coaches; may additionally be called upon to lead hiring searches and/or participate on hiring committees both within, and outside, of the department.
