Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director, External Operations, the Director, Broadcasting and Production will be responsible for the live streaming and broadcasting of Penn Athletics events (aka the Penn Sports Network or PSN) with the primary purpose of ensuring ESPN+, Ivy League and University standards are met. This position will manage broadcasts and related staff for home Penn Athletics competitions and special events on ESPN+ and regional sports networks and serve as the primary broadcasting and production contact with ESPN+ and the Ivy League. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to collaborate with professionals in marketing, communications, operations, IT and facilities.

Job Responsibilities
Direct the preparation and execution of live productions for Penn Athletics aired on ESPN+ or regional sports networks. Coordinate production schedules, training, and communication with game-day staff to ensure sufficient coverage for all events. Ensure that home athletic events get on-air and are fully staffed; that production staff can serve as the official video review for all applicable sports; and that all cameras, on-site setups, transmission paths, and feeds are functioning properly for each broadcast.
Manage the Assistant Director, Broadcast and Production. Set goals, adhere to performance evaluation schedules, and develop staff into vital part of the team. Train staff and student workers on various production equipment, including but not limited to NewTek TriCaster switchers, AJT graphics system, and NewTek 3-Play replay system.
Represent PSN in production meetings and planning sessions for events that require video services. Coordinate with Marketing, Communications, Operations, IT and Facilities on live streaming and broadcast logistics, including reporting infrastructure and related issues prior to, during, and after events. Test all production equipment and associated in-venue videoboard interfaces before all scheduled events and broadcasts. Support Marketing game presentation staff in coordinating in-venue entertainment opportunities, such as fan cams.
Maintain a repair and replacement plan for all production equipment. Manage resources and equipment inventory to support live streaming and archiving of digital video assets. Routinely report out on ESPN+ viewership data. Prepare annual operating budget and lead long-term planning for PSN.
Coordinate with the Director of Video Content on daily operations, equipment and digital asset inventory.
Serve in various production positions, including onsite point-of-contact, for events airing on linear television or other streaming platforms not produced by PSN.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s Degree and 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in broadcasting and live production, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
Must be proficient with web streaming software, camera operations (HD & SD), microphones, lighting and related production equipment, & control room equipment.
Experience in a professional live event broadcast environment and ability to demonstrate competence in all areas of video production preferred.
Knowledge of NewTek equipment/systems, and video production and broadcast standards of the Ivy League, ESPN, and regional sports networks a plus.
Must be available nights and weekends.
