The Director, Football Operations (DFO) is responsible for the logistical planning and execution of all football team member support functions to include meals, lodging, transportation, communication, and facility support. The DFO upholds the standards of excellence established by the Head Football Coach and elevates the football program through year-round operational support enabling critical aspects for the team to compete and win at the FBS level.All the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the United States Military Academy (“USMA”), Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. (“AWPAA”), the American Athletic Conference (“Conference”), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”).

Level of Decision Making

The DFO exercises strategic level decision making in recommendations made to the Chief of Staff regarding team operations and budgeting. Higher level decision making will happen through the Chief of Staff. The DFO is depended upon to make independent and time critical decisions in providing life support functions to the football team. DFO decisions are critical in keeping the team on time and on target for mission accomplishment.The employee must maintain a high level of professionalism, moral and ethical character, and be a role model.

Success in this position will be evaluated by the Supervisor on the employee’s performance in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Commitment to AWPAA Mission, Vision and Values; and supporting the AWPAA Strategic Plan and Priority Results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

25% Team Movement/Travel Planning and Execution

• Coordinate home and away game travel needs to include charter bus/flights, rental cars, auxiliary vehicles, police escorts, parking, etc.
• Assist Chief of Staff in the bid process and selection of team hotels and coordinate all hotel needs and rooming arrangements for the team and other departmental staff who are traveling with the team.
• Coordinate on campus team busing and local transportation needs for team and staff.
• Work with AWPAA Operations staff on transportation logistics.
• Maintain visibility on the travel budget process through the Chief of Staff.

25% Team Sustenance Planning and Execution

• Coordinate all meals and snacks for home and away events.
• Oversee and guide the Assistant DFO in provisioning summer meal schedule, pre-season camp meals, post practice meals and overall 4th floor Kimsey operations.
• Work with local vendors and maintain accountability for the food budget through the Chief of Staff.
• Work with AWPAA finance office to provide cadet meal reimbursements and update budget as needed.

15% Facility Coordination and Elevation

• Coordinate facility scheduling, cleanliness, upkeep, and projects with Government side support.
• Work with graphics department and other vendors to elevate facility presentation.
• Conduct daily facility walkthroughs to ensure high standards are maintained.
• Setup and breakdown of Kimsey facility for pre-season practice/camp.

15% Roster Management

• Maintain team Master Roster in Teamworks with all vital information and synchronize with all other auxiliary rosters.
• Update and maintain accuracy of the Team Board.
• Work with recruiting department, sports information, and compliance to onboard new team members.

15% Team Schedule Coordination and Communication

• Schedule team events, functions, and practices and communicate requirements and changes as needed.

5% Other Duties

Supervisory Responsibilities

• DFO provides leadership and direction to the Assistant DFO in execution of all requirements and is the primary liaison with advance personnel during team travel events. Responsible for supervision of Operations volunteers, interns, and cadet support.

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

• This position must be able to handle the physical demands of office hours, practices and travel events.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
• Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

• Frequently moves boxes/equipment weighing up to up to 30 lbs. around the office and across campus for various events.

• The person in this position frequently communicates with recruiting staff, coaches, and cadets to enhance their performance in operations. Must be able to exchange accurate information with all parties and develop trusting relationships.

• The person in this position frequently communicates with USMA staff and vendors.

• Must be able to detect performance issues from long distances.

• Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.

Travel

This position must be able to travel as needed to attend competition and professional development events.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute between four and six (4-6) years’ experience working within an intercollegiate athletics department, professional sports organization and/or other elite sporting institution with specific experience in student-athlete recruitment, recruiting communications/social media, roster management and group leadership.
• Knowledgeable in all the Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with Teamworks and ARMS.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, parents, etc.
• Takes initiative, hardworking, ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently, creative.
• Extremely organized, detail oriented, self-starter and intrinsically motivated.
• Strong management skills; Proven ability to multi-task effectively.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
• Experience as a DFO for a college or university football team.

Additional Eligibility Requirements

• Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
• Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Pay Range

$65,000 - $75,000

Sign-on bonus based on policy.

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries that AWPAA believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted position. AWPAA expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would AWPAA consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
