The Athletics Department is seeking a Director of Football Operations. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.). The purpose of this position is to serve as liaison for the Head Football Coach. This position provides administrative support to the Head Football Coach and manages the administrative support for the entire Football Program. The position is responsible for special projects and maintaining the event and travel schedule of the Head Football Coach. The position will perform a wide variety of administrative and analytical assignments, which involve independent judgment, knowledge of the University, State, and NCAA procedures, as well as coordination with other areas in the athletic department, university population, and the general public. The Director of Football Operations will also serve as a member of the Senior Management Staff.

35% ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT Provides administrative support to the Head Football Coach. Maintains daily schedules and logs of events, meetings and actions requiring Head Coach’s attention. Schedules daily activities mentioned, including transportation, meals [if required], and advising the Coach of such activities to ensure attendance. Screens telephone calls requesting the Head Coach. Responds to and prepares all correspondence requiring a communicated message, either directly from the Head Coach or based on his suggested response. Performs dictation transcription of letters and memos from Head Coach. Apprises the Coach of any Football Office activities that require action, both internally involving the staff, and outside contacts with other OSU departments, other universities, or the general public. Assists the Head Coach in any activity that will aid in maintaining the performance, efficiency, integrity, and mission of the OSU Football Office. Acts as a Human Resources liaison when appropriate during all staff hires in Football. Acts as lead contact on all away home football contests and is responsible for all transportation team needs to include contracting with outside vendors (planes, buses, and hotels). Represents the Football Office as part of the Senior Management Staff and is required to maintain a current, valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record as they will be driving on behalf of university during team travel and for events. 20% PROGRAM / PROJECT MANAGEMENT Assists with activities contributing to the support of the Football Office, financial or otherwise, including football camps, coaches’ clinics, etc. Coordinates all activities, including large mailings, participant responses, vendor business contacts, accounting and financial accountability, and personal participation during the events when possible. Prepares travel reimbursement forms. 15% FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATION MANAGEMENT Manages the administration of the Football Program’s administrative office. Assists the general needs of the Assistant Coaches, including scheduling, training, directing, responding to queries, overseeing accuracy and timeliness of completed work, resolving problems, and conflicts of priorities. Coordinates the influx of requests, in-house typing, correspondence, and general needs of Assistant Coaches and assigned Graduate Assistants. Ensures a current database of athletes containing names, addresses, addresses of parents, telephone numbers, class schedules, curriculum and daily activities involving the Football Office. Responds to athletes’ inquiries and directs questions, procedures and assistance to applicable person or department. Communicates with the general public, beaver supporters, news media, PAC-12 universities, and other departments within OSU via telephone, correspondence or in-person. Maintains current database of football schedules, practices, game play book, meetings and requirements while complying with all NCAA rules, regulations, guidelines, and requests of our Football Office. Coordinates all Football Office needs to ensure completion of scheduled deadlines. Serves as a member of the Athletic department’s Senior Management Staff, which includes making strategic decisions that affect the entire department. 15% SUPERVISION / LEADERSHIP Provide leadership, supervision, and direction for assigned staff year-round. Plans, assigns, and reviews work. Establishes goals for each position and assesses performance through completion of evaluations. Hires, trains, promotes employees. Schedules work and adjusts work priorities to meet the needs of Football Operations. Disciplines or effectively recommends discipline up to and including dismissal. Addresses grievances and develops a framework for corrective actions as necessary. 15% STRATEGIC PLANNING Develops and maintains the unit’s strategic plan. Independently manages, evaluates, and adjusts strategic plan in accordance with internal and external changing landscapes.
Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience required, with five (5) years of that experience working with an NCAA Division I Football Program in a support capacity (non-coaching)..Experience supervising employees. Excellent oral and written communication skills. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter. Demonstrated ability to handle conflict.
