Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree-granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. The Director of Development for Athletics is charged specifically with the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals and corporations with an interest in and capability of supporting the mission of Middle Georgia State University and Knights Athletics; as well as management and facilitation of the Knights Athletics Association, its associated tiers of sponsors, etc.

Duty 1 -
Promote and maintain a personal commitment to the mission of MGA and Knights Athletics.
Duty 2 -
Strategically manage all donor work and activities within Knights Athletics.
Duty 3 -
Cultivate a portfolio of prospects capable of making major gifts ($25,000+), develop strategies and solicit gifts matching donor interests with the opportunities of Knights Athletics.
Duty 4 -
Coordinate and attend donor-focused events with Knights Athletic connections.
Duty 5 -
Work collaboratively with the Athletics Director and office of advancement to develop a prospect pool of donors for cultivation and plans an annual strategy for solicitation of athletics alumni to increase gift income and the percentage of athletics alumni giving to the college.
Duty 6 -
Engage University administration, coaches, athletic staff, and faculty as prospect development resources.
Duty 7 -
Maintain appropriate and effective reporting of activity and monitoring of resources and expenditures associated with portfolio and assigned responsibilities.
Duty 8 -
Adhere to and enforce the rules and regulations of the NAIA and NCAA, affiliated conferences and other authorities that may influence the MGA intercollegiate athletics program.
Duty 9 -
Plan, coordinate and lead donor cultivation events in collaboration with Advancement such as the Knights Golf Tournament, Knights Give (peer-to-peer giving program) and other fundraising event initiatives.
Duty 10 -
Facilitation and management of Knights Athletics Association, including sponsorship tiers, newsletter, membership growth, etc.
Educational Requirements
Baccalaureate degree.
Other Required Qualifications
Ability to manage an active portfolio of 125-150 major gift prospects in all aspects of the development cycle.
Ability to develop, maintain and grow interpersonal relationships including with university alumni, donors, friends, corporate partners, administrators, faculty, and staff.
Knowledgeable of donor database, contact management and tracking systems, preferably Raisers Edge
Willingness to be hands-on in a role that is demanding and requires a high level of energy and professionalism.
Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to prioritize workload in a timely manner to complete assignments with many deadlines and competing requirements.
Ability to communicate well, and build rapport quickly with donors, faculty, and colleagues.
Required Experience
2-4 years (direct or equivalent) experience managing donor relationships with demonstrated success in closing gifts of $10,000 and above.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years¿ experience or service.
Preferred Experience
Preferably 5 years of progressive experience in college athletics administration.
Understanding and appreciation of intercollegiate athletics and Development operations within a comprehensive university setting.
Knowledge of database management and statistical analysis preferred.
Knowledge of development and fundraising program principles and best practices.
Knowledge of marketing principles and methods.
Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the solicitation and securing of major gifts.
Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
Ability to manage multiple projects and see projects through to a timely completion with strict attention to detail.
Proficiency in Raisers Edge software for fundraising and relationship management.
Knowledge of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Ability to synthesize and make data driven decisions.
Skill in oral and written communication.
