Tenure Track Associate/Assistant Professor to direct university pep bands and teach undergraduate courses in instrumental music education. Other courses will include instrumental conducting, methods courses, instrumental literature, and supervision of student teachers. Additional course teaching assignments are dependent on the qualifications of the candidate and departmental needs. Must be an active member of professional organizations and have the ability to recruit students. The position will focus on a partnership with Lipscomb athletics to build a pep band that will share a common vision with both the School of Music and athletics. The responsibilities within the School of Music will expand on an already thriving curriculum and student body within performance and music education.
The candidate will work with the College of Education and represent the School of Music in matters of curriculum, standards, accreditation, etc. They will mentor students through the current portfolio-based certification process.
The School of Music at Lipscomb University is housed within the College Entertainment and the Arts, a division that also comprises the departments of Visual Art, Theatre, Film, Animation, and Fashion. The school has a long history of preparing professional music educators, scholars, composers, and performers. We foster a comprehensive music curriculum served by a group of dedicated and passionate artist-teachers. The School of Music offers BM, BA, and BS degrees in performance, music education, commercial music (singer/songwriter and production tracks), worship arts, and music industry studies. Masters degree required. Terminal degree preferred. (Ph.D., DMA or DME). Experience in primary and/or secondary education required as well as experience with athletic bands at the university level.
