Colby- Sawyer College, an NCAA Division III institution with 18 varsity sports primarily competing in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), is searching for a Director of Athletic Communications. The successful candidate will oversee the Sports Information Office, as well as game-day operations; in addition to developing and implementing communication strategies to recognize and promote the achievements of our teams, student-athletes, staff, and Charger brand.
Responsibilities
Creative event promotion and coordination of athletic events on campus and in the community through social media, game day releases, and media outlets.
Content creation including written and graphical content celebrating student-athlete, coach and staff achievements, including fact books, game notes, press releases, social media content and graphics.
Coordinate live video coverage for home games, as well as troubleshoot setup and breakdown of equipment.
Serve as primary media contact for Colby-Sawyer Athletics. Cultivate and foster relationships with reporters from local and national publications to maximize coverage of CSC’s teams, student-athletes, accomplishments and stories. Disseminate press releases when necessary. Including but not limited to milestones, hall of fame, coaching changes, hometown releases.
Work collaboratively with athletic operations to provide game management support from a marketing and communication perspective. Compile game statistics for home athletic events, using StatCrew and/or NCAA Live Stats software. Catalog statistics in every sport, including all scores and personal coach/player information. Coordinate statistical support for Athletic Hall of Fame. Coordinate live video coverage for home games as well as troubleshoot, set-up and break down of equipment.
Oversee of Colby-SawyerAthletics.com, social media handles and YouTube channel and ensure content is accurate, updated, relevant. Develop and implement content strategies for athletics. Post scores, game coverage and stories to Colby-SawyerAthletics.com and social media sites as they happen. Work with coaches and other campus departments on content to assist in recruitment and retention efforts.
Manage promotional efforts of athletic events on campus and in the community. Utilize website, social media, newsletter and other advertising options as necessary. Coordinate promotional materials for games and events. Work with the Director of Athletics to build sponsorship and ad strategy using in-game, multimedia and website opportunities.
Oversee production and content strategy for in-game media, post-game highlights, promotional video and live-broadcasted events.
Maintain knowledge of and adhere to all applicable NCAA Division III and Great Northeast Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
Actively pursue and execute nominations of Colby-Sawyer student-athletes for conference, regional, and national awards/recognition.
Hire and train a staff of qualified work study students and interns to assist with game day and office duties.
Participate in athletics fundraising and public relations functions.
Serve on various college committees and integrate into the campus community, as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sports management or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Knowledge of StatCrew and NCAA Live Stats software required.
Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations as it relates to communications. If not from previous experience, a willingness to learn, inside and out.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, must be resourceful and accountable to schedules and budgets. Must be able to manage multiple communications efforts and staff to achieve department and College goals. Ability to lead a team to meet strategic goals.
Willingness to work nights and weekends to support athletics schedules. Travel when necessary.
Working knowledge of social media platforms, social media management tools and web management tools. Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
Knowledge of multimedia production efforts.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, other college athletics personnel, other Colby-Sawyer College personnel and the media in carrying out the public relations aspect of the job.
