Job Description

Responsible for the administration and management of athletic communications for sports teams at Florida Tech. This includes the hiring, training and managing of personnel for each athletic communications function as well as the essential duties required for effectively running athletic events. Creates and implements the marketing plan for each assigned sport to ensure the best results are realized for the promotion and overall attendance.

The Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for formulating, implementing and managing the public relations strategy for the publicity and promotion of Florida Tech's 15 varsity athletic teams.

  • Oversee the public relations strategy for Florida Tech’s 15 varsity sports programs through the use of daily press releases, website content, and social media as well as through the nomination of scholar-athletes, coaches and teams for weekly, preseason and postseason athletic and academic awards.
  • Manage in-game athletic communications tasks performed by game personnel, including the accurate inputting of stats on NCAA required software, production of live video broadcasts, posting live game updates, providing scripts or public address announcements and distributing official stats to coaches, NCAA and other required services following athletic events.
  • Responsible for the creation and implementation of marketing plan for each sport, production of athletic department publications including digital media guides, game programs, sport posters, etc.
  • Maintain accurate data on the www.FloridaTechSports.com athletics website including team rosters, scholar-athlete bios, team statistics, coach and department information using HTML and web content management systems.
  • Coordinate and compile statistics for all 15 sports for both seasonal and historical purposes. Oversees and reports weekly scores and statistics to the Sunshine State Conference, coaches' organizations, and NCAA.
  • Assist coaches, teams and scholar-athletes in covering, promoting, and publicizing all community engagement opportunities and events to create a positive image within the community.
  • Plan and coordinate photography needs and services for all Florida Tech athletic department requirements including team photos, headshots, event action photos, and community engagement photos.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Athletic Promotions & Engagement in developing event scripts, public address announcements, etc.
  • Maintain positive relationships with internal and external media constituents including university newspaper (The Crimson), local, regional and national media outlets as well as other institution's athletic media representatives.
  • Maintain the day-to-day functions and assign specific responsibilities to part-time workers and Federal Work Study students.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sports management or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

  • Knowledge of NCAA Live Stats software required.

  • Understanding of NCAA rules and regulations as it relates to communications. If not from previous experience, a willingness to learn, inside and out.
