Director of Communications, Media and Academic Affairs

Washington College, an NCAA Division III member of the Centennial Conference, is accepting applications for Director of Athletic Communications and Academic Affairs. This is an administrative-level position in the Department of Athletics and heads up the department’s communications efforts.

The Director of Athletic Communications oversees a staff of one full-time employee, one part-time employee, and a student game-day staff of approximately 10+ students. Among other things, this position manages the College’s athletics website, and main athletics social media channels, prepares game recaps and news releases, oversees the athletics communications budget, produces game-day programs, and oversees the department’s live-streaming efforts. The position also oversees staffing at home events, including statistics, public address, photography, and live streaming.

The Director of Athletic Communications oversees a staff of one full-time employee, one part-time employee, and a student game-day staff of approximately 10+ students. Among other things, this position manages the College’s athletics website, and main athletics social media channels, prepares game recaps and news releases, oversees the athletics communications budget, produces game-day programs, and oversees the department’s live-streaming efforts. The position also oversees staffing at home events, including statistics, public address, photography, and live streaming.

• Edit and share video content for use in promotional videos on social media platforms

• Provide technical and creative support for video board at games

• Assist or oversee the creation of video for use on video boards for indoor games

• Archiving: create and maintain a library of video clips and photos for future use and coordinate footage and photo sharing with local television stations, news outlets, publications, and schools

• Coordinate with College photographer team media days for headshots of individual athlete photos

• Coordinate with College photographer and student photographers to provide game coverage for social media and website

• Oversee recording and edit postgame highlights for all sports for use on web and social media

• Produce appropriately branded departmental and sport-specific graphics to be used on social media channels and websites

• Provide Summer coverage and promotion of the College athletic program and athlete achievements on social and web to assist recruitment

• Promote our Student/Academic athlete focus

As part of the department’s administrative team, this position attends weekly Administrative Team meetings and monthly Student Affairs staff meetings in addition to regular Athletic Department staff meetings. This position also serves on the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame Board.

This is a salaried position that requires frequent evening and weekend hours, both on-site and from home. Given the frequent requirement of work outside of business hours, a flexible schedule during business hours is possible.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree required. 3-5 years of athletics communications experience in a collegiate setting is preferred. Strong knowledge of desktop publishing and web content editing (preferably with SIDEARM Sports) is required. Familiarity with statistical software (PrestoSports & NCAA Genius) and live video production is required. Experience managing a budget and staff is strongly preferred. Creative, developed experience in graphic design. Strong knowledge of NCAA Division III rules is essential.
