Job Description

The Director of Athletic Development provides overall strategy, leadership and direction for the Alfond Fund annual giving program. The Director oversees the comprehensive strategy and implementation of all annual fund activities. The Director manages all aspects of the annual fund including identification, cultivation, and solicitation while maintaining a portfolio of 50-75 leadership annual giving and major gift prospects. The Director should demonstrate a strategic approach to fundraising, have at 1-3 years of fundraising experience, and be able to demonstrate a successful track record of soliciting and acquiring annual gifts. The Director takes direction from the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and works in close partnership with the University of Maine Foundation, Athletics Marketing and Communications and the Athletic Ticket Office. 

Providing leadership for an annual giving team, the Director will engage, manage, and develop collaboration with on and off campus partners as they build the Alfond Fund, the annual fund arm for varsity athletics. The Director will also work closely with the Foundation’s stewardship coordinator and annual fund team to appropriately acknowledge annual fund donors. Typical hiring range for this position is $50,000 - $75,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
Required:

• Bachelor’s degree 
• At least 1-3 years of direct fundraising/marketing or comparable experience
• At least two years of demonstrated success in staff/volunteer leadership, with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate colleagues, staff and volunteers 
• Strong grasp of college athletics fundraising and a passion for college athletics and the University of Maine
• Strong communication skills 
• Self-starter, ability to launch new initiatives and work independently as a leader
• Ability to think and plan strategically and creatively 
• Highly organized and strong work ethic 
• Willingness to engage in advancement work at all levels driven by a passion for Black Bear Athletics
• Positive attitude and pride in being part of a team environment
