The Athletics Director (AD) is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and supervision of the competitive intercollegiate athletics program of Saint Martin’s University. Overseeing thirteen programs, with more than thirty coaches and two-hundred and fifty student athletes, the AD provides visionary leadership, strategic planning, and policy development for the department. The AD inspires the highest ethical standards for student athletes, cultivating a culture that builds character, mutual respect, and community living among student athletes, coaches, and departmental staff. The AD fosters an environment in which student athletes learn, embody, and live the Benedictine values and Catholic mission of Saint Martin’s University. In partnership with the Office of Institutional Advancement, the AD plays a direct role in raising funds for the department to ensure its success, stability, and viability within the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). The AD administers the overall athletic budget, recruits and manages the coaches and departmental staff, and serves as a campus and community leader representing the Saint Martin’s mission and vision. The AD is responsible to ensure the department’s compliance with all university, national association and conference policies, and rules and regulations as a NCAA Division II member of the GNAC.

The Athletic Director is responsible for developing strategies to lay the foundation for the development of the university’s core values of faith, reason, service, and community. The Athletic Director is expected to embrace the Benedictine values of Saint Martin’s University and reflect them in all aspects of the department. As one of the most visible directors on campus the Athletic Director will provide visionary leadership that ensures a holistic student athlete experience including development of their academic as well as athletic abilities.

Supervision of athletic staff/coaches/student athletes
Recruits, hires and supervises athletic/coaching staff; and ensures compliance with all university, NCAA and conference policies. Ensure the recruitment of competent and diverse coaches and staff.
Conducts annual evaluations of all departmental staff and coaches using student athlete surveys as a part of the evaluative process.
Creates and implements an environment of excellence for student-athletes. Ensure athlete well-being related to academic pursuits, competition, physical/mental/social health, and development of the whole person.
Ensures the highest ethical standards are fully implemented in athletic events and contests, providing safe and welcoming environment for teams, departmental staff, and spectators.
Promotes and supports a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment among student athletes, coaches, and department staff.
Instills and integrates the Benedictine values and Catholic mission of Saint Martin’s University in department policies and practices.
Fundraising
Develops and implements a vital and comprehensive fund-raising program with the primary purpose of generating community, corporate, and alumni support as well as private funding for the identified priorities of the athletic department and the University in association with the Office of Institutional Advancement.
Organizes and effectively executes the annual athletic department golf tournament, game events, and athletic alumni gatherings,
Builds relationships with donors and donor prospects through regular face-to-face visits, calls, emails, and mailings and implements effective moves management strategies within assigned portfolio.
Effectively collaborates with head coaches to develop strategies for the successful completion of specific fundraising initiatives and capital projects.
Maintains a professional relationship with the community and organizations that have an interest in, or provide support to, Saint Martin's University
Attends and/or represents the University at community events, alumni/parent events, athletic events, and other special events in assigned areas and on campus.
Budget Management
Work closely with the Associate Athletic Director and Finance Office to provide administrative oversight and management all Athletic Department finances and business operations.
Will oversee and manage all Athletic Department finances and business operations, serve as the financial lead for the Athletic Department.
Develop policies and procedures for meeting the unique needs of the Athletic Department.
Be accountable for budgets, policies, procedures, and activities in accordance with department, university, conference, and NCAA regulations.
Promotion of Athletics
Collaboration with the Office of Institutional Advancement to develop sponsorships with external community including businesses and individuals. Be actively involved in maintaining relationships with these sponsors.
Serves as an advocate and public spokesperson for intercollegiate athletics with faculty, alumni, donors, the community and the media, sharing the University’s reputation as an outstanding academic university.
Works cooperatively and communicates effectively with the entire University community, including students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and parents, as well as with the media and the public at large.
Represent University at intercollegiate conferences and sport associations including activities as required by the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and NCAA.

REQUIREMENTS AND/OR CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Master’s Degree in Sports Science or Administration
Minimum of 8 years athletic administration experience at the NCAA Division II level.
Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Experience supervising staff and building successful teams.
Higher education is preferred.
Must pass NCAA mandated education modules within the first month of employment.
Experience developing and securing corporate sponsorships, donor relations, and alumni engagement.
Must pass (meeting American Red Cross criterion) the applicable CPR and First Aid Certification Exams within the first month of employment.
Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License. Have no major moving violations on file.
May be asked to pass a driving test (driving university vehicles).
Successfully pass a background check.
