Position Summary:

The Athletic Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight for Campbellsville University's athletic programs. This position ensures that all athletic activities align with the university's mission and values, fostering an environment of excellence, integrity, and student development. The Athletic Director will lead efforts in budget control, team development, and fundraising to strengthen the overall athletic program and support the success of student-athletes both academically and athletically.

Campbellsville University is a proud member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the National Christian Colleges Athletic Association (NCCAA), and the Mid-South Conference. The university sponsors 32 athletic teams with over 900 student-athletes competing at a high level while maintaining a commitment to academic and spiritual growth.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Budget Control

• Operate the athletic program in a financially responsible manner, ensuring proper allocation of resources and fiscal accountability.
• Develop and manage the athletic department budget, including forecasting and monitoring expenses to maintain financial stability.
• Evaluate and approve budget proposals from individual sports programs and departments to align with the overall financial strategy of the university.
• Ensure compliance with university, conference, and national financial guidelines and policies.

2. Team Development

• Provide strategic leadership in recruiting, developing, and retaining high-quality coaching staff and athletic personnel.
• Foster a positive and collaborative culture among athletic teams, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and student-athlete well-being.
• Support coaches in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes by coordinating with admissions, financial aid, academic areas, and other university departments.
• Oversee the academic progress and success of student-athletes, providing support systems to enhance performance in the classroom and on the field.

3. Fundraising

• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support the athletic department, including the expansion of the Big Maroon Club.
• Build relationships with alumni, donors, and community members to generate financial support for athletic programs, facilities, and scholarships.
• Collaborate with university leadership and the advancement team to identify and pursue major gift opportunities for athletic facilities and programs.
• Represent the university’s athletic programs at events and community functions to increase visibility and support.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Support the mission of Campbellsville University in all aspects of the athletic program.
• Oversee the maintenance, scheduling, and use of athletic facilities.
• Ensure compliance with university, conference, and national rules and regulations.
• Promote the athletic programs and the university through strategic communication and engagement efforts.
• Provide adequate athletic training services and support for student-athlete health and safety.
• Work to meet long-term athletic facility needs and program growth objectives.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of experience in athletic administration or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in budget management, team leadership, and fundraising.
• Strong understanding of NAIA, conference, and university regulations and policies.
• Commitment to the mission of Christian higher education and student development.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
• Capacity to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.
