The Athletics department at UNC Asheville is an integral part of the University committed to providing an exemplary NCAA Division I Athletics Program that creates an environment where student-athletes have high-impact learning experiences while pursuing academic, athletic and lifelong goals, and engages the University’s internal and external constituents and communities. Competing in the Big South Conference, UNC Asheville’s Athletics department strives to be nationally recognized for developing “Champions in Athletics and Leaders in Life” by winning in the classroom, community, and competition. The ideal candidate will exhibit character traits of integrity, servant-leadership, work ethic, creativity, and respect for others, and will be passionate about working in college athletics. The Director of Athletics Marketing will manage outreach efforts utilizing a broad range of techniques and strategies including UNC Asheville athletics digital platform, website, social media, email communication and hands on community interaction to engage people in UNC Asheville athletics mission and programs. The target audience includes both people who are already aware of and participating with UNC Asheville athletics as well as the community-at-large. Design and implement marketing strategies that increase attendance and revenue, as well as enhance the fan experience and game day atmosphere for home contests. Create and execute strategies to engage people in UNC Asheville athletic programs with a special focus on the local Asheville community. Oversee the marketing budget. Manage logistics associated with game day marketing as necessary and requested. Be an active representative of UNC Asheville athletics at identified community events. Effectively collaborate with the university marketing and communications team to promote UNC Asheville and UNC Asheville Athletics. Assist with fulfillment of sold sponsorship inventory with Learfield Bulldog GM.
Exempt
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Administration, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field; Masters preferred. Two to three years of experience in marketing, promotions, sales or ticket sales in collegiate professional or minor league field. May also consider relative internships or on-the-job training. Demonstrated experience in digital marketing. Demonstrated success in building relationships, including strong problem solving and listening skills, with a diverse range of constituents. Demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities and deliverables, including the ability to prioritize and delegate as appropriate and required, within a deadline-oriented environment.Independent and cooperative decision-making and strategic thinking, with demonstrated ability to apply the organization’s overall mission to make informed decisions. Ability to communicate effectively and interact with UNC Asheville athletics staff, volunteer leadership, donors and community representatives and partners. Work with the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications to update and manage the organizational website as a branding, marketing, communication, patient information and recruitment tool. Coordinate outreach activities that benefit UNC Asheville athletics and the community served.Proficient use of various platforms (Microsoft Office, Google Suite,) and expertise with social media and communications platforms. At least one year of experience in an NCAA athletic department setting, preferably in community engagement and communications. Excellent verbal and written skills. Demonstrated passion for UNC Asheville athletics mission and work.
