| Primary Purpose |
The mission of the Appalachian State Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations, as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University. Appalachian State University competes as an NCAADivision I team in the Sun Belt, Southern, and MAC Conferences.

| Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
Director of Athletics Performance Nutrition
The ideal candidate for the Director of Performance Nutrition position demonstrates a willingness to engage and provide nutritional education through a spirit of collaboration, through service, and effective communication with members of the High Performance Team of Athletic Training, strength and conditioning, and sport psychology, in an effort to provide a holistic student athlete experience toward lifelong development and growth.
Responsibilities include:
Provide direct Performance Nutrition support to the App State Football program.
Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive nutrition program designed for optimal student-athlete performance, including assessment, education, and programming regarding the nutritional needs of Division I student-athletes. Serves as a resource/consultant to individuals assigned to coordinate and implement pre- and post-competition and travel meals; oversees menu planning for Athletics Training Table in conjunction with Campus Dining Services.
Leads and conducts individual and team nutrition counseling and education sessions; develops effective, sport-specific nutrition presentations and educational materials for student-athletes; plans and implements the nutritional recovery process for select teams; testing and evaluation of student-athletes’ body composition.
Works with sports medicine and sport psychology staff members to address disordered eating or other medical issues related to nutrition and/or body image; conducts nutritional assessments and counseling for student athletes with clinical nutritional needs and food allergies. Collaborate with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, and team physicians to research, evaluate,
Recommend, purchase, distribute, and monitor permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to NCAA rules, regulations, and nutrition-related bylaws.
Oversees training and evaluation of sports nutrition staff, including team sports, dietitian, and sports nutrition assistants and interns, while developing work schedules and program education; oversees ordering, inventory, vendor relationships, procurement of goods, and payment of purchases.
Ability to work evenings and weekends with occasional travel.
