Position Description

The Director of USC Athletics Social Media, reporting to the Associate AD of Communications and Public Relations and in coordination with all University of South Carolina athletics teams, will be responsible for the development, management and execution of a comprehensive social media strategy for Gamecock Athletics accounts (TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and X) while also maintaining select pages of the department’s website, GamecocksOnline. This position will strive to develop and foster a strong online community of Gamecock fans through various social and digital platforms. This position will work closely with content creators as well as oversee student workers to help grow that online community both in size and strength – a community that’s welcoming to other fans (and opinions), sports an optimistic personality, and is proud to stand behind our teams and brand. In addition to staying current on new tools and using analytics, this position will also develop best practices for administrators of team accounts.

| Knowledge/Skills/Abilities |
Working knowledge of various social media platforms (Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Tik Tok, You Tube – both using the platform and understanding the analytics), Microsoft Word, Excel and Photoshop. Ability with a camera (both still and video is a plus). Strong knowledge / understanding of sports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Direct/oversee the ideation, development, and implementation of Gamecock Athletics social media strategy, intended to be used to foster a strong digital community of Gamecock fans. This includes responding to fans (prompted and unprompted), answering questions with a customer-oriented mindset, highlighting successes, and more. Consult with communications staff and is considered the subject-matter expert to senior leadership. Assess social media accounts used by various teams, seeking ways to collaborate and align the accounts to best meet the needs of the various audiences.
