Job Summary:
The Director of Broadcast Operations and Live Events serves an integral role within Northwestern Athletics to establish and implement a strategic plan for live video production to promote the University Athletics brand. This role reports up through the Sr. Associate AD for External Affairs. Responsible for oversight of the team that produces all in-venue video board productions and streamed live events, while acting as the liaison for linear network broadcasts.

Specific Responsibilities :
·       Leads production of the in-venue game presentation for football, basketball and other spectator sports. Primary responsibilities include, oversight and execution of game day setup for in-venue production, collaborating with marketing, sponsorship, development and communication teams on in-game elements and fan engagement.
·       Leads production of more than 150 video board events and multi-camera web streams per year.
·       Act as liaison between athletic department and network television partners. Work with networks to ensure the department is meeting their requirements and providing broadcast assets and other assistance in preparation for live game broadcasts.
·       Oversees and works with staff for scheduling control room positions and camera operators for all productions, as well as commentators for streamed events.
·       Responsible for maintenance of all control room and video equipment while troubleshooting any hardware, software, and equipment issues that arise.
·       Supervise a team of 2-4 full-time employees. Responsible for meeting regularly to establish goals and priorities, setting and meeting deadlines, and mentoring for professional development, as appropriate.
·       Works with staff to maintain recruitment, hiring, and training of student workforce and freelance event staff.
·       Develop and implement training program for full-time employees, student workforce,
·       And freelance staff on live event production equipment and techniques.
·       Strategically plan and manage department budget.
·       Work with capital projects, operations and facilities departments to ensure new construction of athletic facilities includes necessary audio/visual equipment and cabling to meet television and in-house broadcast requirements.
·       Up-to-date knowledge of latest video production equipment and trends.
·       Responsible for adhering to all department and university policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the big ten conference and the ncaa.
·       Responsible for adhering to all department and university continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
·       Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; or appropriate combination of education and experience.
·       Experience supervising employees.
·       Minimum 5-7 years’ professional experience in sports video production, including working in a control room, operating broadcast equipment and infrastructure, shooting and editing video, and managing live broadcasts.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
·       Technical comprehension of various systems that support a videoboard, control room, and audio interfaces (production switcher, video playback, graphics creation, replay, fascia controllers, etc.)
·       Advanced knowledge of ross video systems, including both hardware and software, highly preferred (especially carbonite and xpression)
·       Knowledge of dante audio networking interfaces is encouraged.
·       Familiar with fiber optic infrastructure is highly encouraged.
·       Comprehension of marketing, sponsorship and other related departments within athletics and recreation, and their roles in gameday presentation.
·       Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across all teams.
·       Strong organizational and time management skills.
·       Professional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
·       Ability to work in dynamic fast-paced environment.
·       Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
·       Prior experience with directing and producing live sporting events highly preferred.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
·       Expertise using the adobe creative suite, including premiere, aftereffects and photoshop.
·       Knowledge of rules and regulations of the ncaa, big ten conference and northwestern university preferred.
·       Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact with diverse populations.
·       Ability to establish engaging relationships within and across racialized and other marginalized communities.

Target hiring range for this position will be between $75,000-$82,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
