Purpose:
The Director of Creative Media for Athletics will be responsible for gathering and providing
information to the public on specific sports and assisting with public relations activities within
the athletics department. The incumbent will work together with the Director of Athletics
Communications in the management and operations of the department as well.
The Director of Creative Media for Athletics is expected to embrace and lead through change in
the rapidly changing world of communications and will strategically position the department to
build the OBU brand through outbound media, video, online resources, social media and
emerging mediums. The Director of Creative Media for Athletics will operate within OBU’s
Athletics Communications Department as a publicity outlet to share the message of Bison
Athletics and be motivated to push the department to be among the most innovative in NCAA
Division II.
The Director of Creative Media for Athletics will report to the Associate Athletics Director for
External Operations.
Essential Functions:

Ensures that information about the University's intercollegiate athletics
programs is available to the public quickly and effectively.
Serve as lead content creator through Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) or
similar programs.
Assist in the managing of computer statistics for OBU (OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
UNIVERSITY) sporting events. Depending on the skills and knowledge of the
employee, that may include football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball, and
softball.
Assist in producing Bison Sports Network broadcasts.
Nominate worthy student-athletes for conference and national awards and
postseason accolades.

Supervises, assigns, and helps direct the work of students to complete tasks and
objectives.
Potentially travel to conference sporting events and NCAA (National Collegiate
Athletic Association) Tournament contests.
Assisting with any media request for coaches and student-athletes.
Ensure compliance with the NCAA, Great American Conference and University
policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Other Duties:

Qualifications:
Required:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with AP style
Sound editorial judgement
• Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking and strong public relations sensibilities

• Understanding of graphic design principles and experience with Adobe Creative Suite
• General video production skills including editing and webcasting capabilities
• General photography and photo editing abilities
•
• Ability to monitor and manage multiple social media accounts and platforms

Comfortable with Microsoft Office software
In-depth, sport-specific knowledge to serve as an official scorer
Technical knowledge and experience with StatCrew or other statistical software
Broad working knowledge and familiarity with NCAA and Great American Conference
rules and policies.
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field
Cursory understanding of HTML and basic web design principles

• Have worked a minimum of one year in a collegiate/professionally related field
• Video cameras, digital cameras
• Must be able to carry up to 50lbs up four flights of stairs on a regular basis
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time
• Must be an active member of a local evangelical church
Preferred:
• Master’s degree in journalism or related field
• Have worked five years in collegiate/professionally related
field
Special Requirements:
• Must be a member of a local evangelical *Christian church. *Evangelical is a broad term
referring to a segment within Christianity which maintains the authority of the Bible and the
belief in salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
