Director of Creative Services - Athletics
This position reports to the Director of Athletics. The position is part of the Athletics Executive staff. This position will be involved in regular departmental meetings and interact on a regular basis with coaches and student-athletes. The Director of Creative Services is a hybrid between creative services and traditional sports information duties with a heavy emphasis on the creative services portion. The position will include the regular production of video pieces, graphic design and photography for distribution on Ashland’s social media platforms. A background in these areas is desired. This position will be responsible for creating plans and strategies to highlight the accomplishments of teams, student-athletes and coaches through social media and video. A thorough understanding of these platforms is required. The expectation is that the director of creative services will work closely with coaches in developing ideas to promote teams and student-athletes. This position will also work with the director of athletics and assistant athletic directors to market and promote SAAC, ticket drives, department events and designated games and promotions. Work is to be produced in a timely manner, hitting deadlines that are established by the athletic communications office, coaches and staff involved and the director of athletics. The Director of Creative Services will work in tandem with a director of athletic communications to ensure that there is a coordinated, effective plan to promote and market Ashland University teams, student-athletes and athletic department accomplishments. This position will hire, train and mentor undergraduate students in videography, photography and graphic design and will work to build a multimedia team within the athletic department. Set up photo days for AU teams. Organize and schedule special photo shoots for teams and student-athletes as required. Assist in the streaming of AU games and help in various areas of that production. Help maintain the Athletics website – goashlandeagles.com. Assist in game-day operations such as game management, statistics and score reporting as needed. Be one of the contact people in media relations from AU that works closely with the GMAC office and the NCAA office in media-related projects and requests. Work closely with constituencies from across campus in promoting AU Athletics. This would include admissions, advancement, alumni affairs, student affairs and the president’s office. Serve as the media host and handle all duties associated with that when AU hosts GMAC and NCAA postseason events. Accompany teams/student-athletes to selected regular season and postseason games/matches. This position requires weekend and evening work throughout the year.
Bachelor’s Degree is required Strong writing and editing skills are required as well as a thorough understanding of athletics, sports rules, scoring rules and NCAA rules and regulations This position requires well-developed communication skills. The ability to make presentations and speak to and in front of small and large groups is highly desired The ability to produce video and graphic design pieces under deadline pressure is required Previous experience in sports information, sports marketing and/or sports journalism is desired A thorough understanding of social media is required The ability to work weekends and evenings is required. This position requires extensive travel and non-traditional hours. The ability to work under time constraints and handle several assignments at one time is required.
