Director of Football Operations/Assistant Football Coach

Position Overview:
The Director of Football Operations is responsible for the day-to-day management of the football program.  These duties include coordinating all team travel, serving as the in-house recruiting coordinator, and coordinating all official visits of recruit prospects which includes transcript evaluation, official visit approval forms, lodging, food, and student host. The position also calls for assisting the head coach with budget management, coordinating all summer camps and coach’s clinics, pre-season training camp, and supervising all student assistants and managers, as well as any other duties assigned by the head football coach.  The Director of Football Operations serves as the liaison to intra-departmental offices. The Director of Football Operations also serves as the inter-departmental liaison for food services, student success, counseling office, campus ministries, etc. Furthermore, the Director of Football Operations ensures that all assigned tasks comply with all University, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules.Â

POSITION COACH:Â
Prepare all areas of the assigned position group.Â
1.   Practice and Competition:
Assist the head football coach in the organization, preparation of practices and in conducting safe and strategic individual/team training sessions and competitive strategies. Executes appropriate coaching decisions during practice and competition that ensures the welfare of the athletes representing the football program.
2.   Recruiting:Â
Assist the head football coach in the development and inclusion of a comprehensive recruiting plan that shows successful results for the recruitment, yield, and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in a rigorous learning environment. Serves as an effective recruiter for the program working within the parameters of the Charleston Southern Buccaneer Football program, Charleston Southern University, the Big South Conference, and the NCAA rules. Â Recruitment strategy results in a healthy roster and a competitive program against scheduled opponents.Â
3.   Video:
Knowledge of the XO’s video system and its use in practice and game strategy and planning. Must demonstrate knowledge of properly using video to teach incorrect proper technique from practice and game film. Must also demonstrate an ability to evaluate opponent game film for proper preparation of competition and use of player preparation for practice. Self-scout team practice/game film in the area of special teams.  Grade student-athlete performance during practice and competition and provide constructive feedback to assist student-athletes in preparation for competition. Â
4.   Game Management:
Assist the head football coach in game management, and assist with the preparation and event management needs at home competitive events. Assist in the coordination of special events including recruiting, alumni, Charleston Southern Administration, Big South Conference, and student-athlete recognition functions as it pertains to the football program.

Qualifications:
1.   Bachelor’s degree requiredÂ
2.   Knowledge and appreciation of a liberal arts education and understanding of the role athletics play in a college committed to academic excellence.Â
3.   Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff, faculty, students, parents, and alumni from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Â
4.   Demonstrate knowledge and ability to work within the framework of Charleston Southern University’s policies, the Big South Conference regulations, and the NCAA Division I philosophy and rules.
5.   Maintains valid and annual certifications on NCAA rule tests.
6.   Proficiency in computer-based technology, including Excel and Word. Furthermore, one must be familiar with XO’s video platform.
7.   Effective teaching methods: excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; willingness to work on projects with fellow assistant coaches, athletic trainers, strength coaches, academic and university administration, and compliance staff.Â
Physical Demands/Activity:
Requires ability to be outside for long periods of time, and must be able to handle extreme weather conditions. Physical activities include running, standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects, work nights and weekends, and extensive athletic related travel.
Level and Type of Experience:
Should have prior playing or coaching experience at the collegiate level or an equivalent of high school coaching experience. Minimum three years of experience at the operations level either as an intern, assistant, or director. Â
